Breathtaking and Beautiful!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Song of the Irish Whistle 1 (Audio CD)
I came across this CD by accident while Christmas shopping last year in December. The store I walked into had it playing as background music. As I made my way around the store, I kept commenting to my sister-in-law about the beautiful music that was playing. I stopped at the check out counter and asked if I could purchase a tape or CD of the music we were listening to. They said, "Yes." And, so I bought a small treasure of a music CD.I love music and listen to all kinds (mostly rock and pop) but this has got to be the best Celtic music I've ever heard. I find it to be calming, soothing and while listening to it I feel extremely at peace, as if a feeling of serenity passes through me. I listen to it everytime I feel stressed, whether it's in the car or at home. I can't say enough about how beautiful all the songs are performed and how they calm your soul. Five stars just isn't enough for this most captivating music! This is one purchase you'll not regret.

Joanie Madden's "Song of the Irish Whistle" is one of my very favorite cds of all time. Very much like the Irish themselves, the music is sometimes mournful, sometimes joyful, sometimes thoughtful and sometimes prayerful. Madden's playing is a treasure to listen to and absolutely beautiful. If I'm not mistaken, an Irish tin whistle is a very small and inexpensive musical instrument, but the sounds that Joanie Madden creates on this cd are pure gold. Anyone who loves Irish music of any stripe will be enthralled with this recording; the tunes it contains, in the hands of a master musician like Madden, are just gorgeous! I'm fairly convinced that it would not be possible to dislike this fine compact disc. It nobly evokes images of a grand and peaceful place, the Ireland of our dreams. Highly recommended to anyone who appreciates splendid music making!

What A Great Recording!,

I was in the "International" section of a record store and this CD was in the front of one the rows. I play the flute and pennywhistle so naturally, I was curious. I took a chance, bought it and was incredibly impressed. Now, don't get me wrong, just because I play these instruments doesn't mean that I absolutely adore any kind of Celtic music. But, let me tell you, I'm not lying when I say that Joanie Madden's version of the beautiful tune "Down By The Sally Gardens" alone is worth the price of the CD. Of course, there's lots more here to enjoy.

This is one of my favorite albums ever. If you like the Irish Whistle then you will love this. I was in a rut in my life and I couldn't find any music to really move me until one day when I accidentally stumbled upon Joanie Madden. This music is so touching and beautiful. My favorite tracks are #5 (very upbeat and catchy) and #3 (it really makes you wanna dance). I highly recommend this album if you like Irish/Celtic music. This album even inspired me to start playing the Irish Whistle.Buy this album and enjoy! Don't hesitate!

It should be obvious from all the other 5 star reviews that this CD is something special. I have owned this recording for years, but I am posting today because I find it to be one of those albums that haunts you. Every so often, out of the blue, I think of one of the tracks and have to drag it out again.
A world class artist at the top of her form, masterfully recorded. How can you go wrong?

If the thought of listening to relaxing, reflective and joyful instrumental Celtic music featuring the haunting irish whistle appeals to you, this is a must have CD.
In my search for a CD of Celtic songs without vocals a friend introduced me to this one, and it is a treasure. Joannie Madden plays the whistle with great skill, and the ensemble that accompanies her is equally talented. Most of the songs are on the mellower side, but a number of delightful jigs are also included that add fun and change the pace a bit. Overall this CD creates a deep longing to wander the hills of Ireland in melancholic bliss...while dancing a jig once in awhile (smile).

Joannie Madden's Flute and Whistle Artistry is Spellbinding!,

I have perhaps 150 tapes and CD's of Irish music, and this particular CD is one of my 5 favorites. I have had the great fortune to enjoy traveling in Ireland extensively on no less than 14 occasions, and my love for that island nation has absolutely no bounds! The magical whistle and flute sounds created by the incomparable Joannie Madden never fail to carry me across the Atlantic in mind and spirit to my favorite place on earth! The depth of feeling she is able to express in the soaring and plaintive sounds she produces is nothing short of incredible. Though it is not easy to pick favorites from this CD, I would say that "The Immigrant", "The South Wind", and her beautiful interpretation of "Down By the Sally Gardens" would be at the top of the list. Whether you have Irish heritage or not, be sure to check your vital signs if you fail to be emotionally affected by "The Immigrant"! My strongly recommend getting a copy of this CD now, and very soon you will most likely be encouraging your friends to do the same!

I first heard this CD being played in a shop at a mall. I told my wife I was going to have to leave for a while, I was crying and didn't understand why. This album touches the soul, bypasses the thought processes and goes directly to the center of your being. One of the all time best musical offerings.
