Book Description

January 8, 2008
Translated from the Coptic, Pig Latin, Aramaic and Greek by Yäq Cuartz, "The Song Itself" is the memoir of a nameless and sexless messenger whose memory and world are set ablaze by contact with an ancient Gnostic codex. After witnessing the aftermath of a brutal murder ignited by the codex, the protagonist must face a cult of arson-loving linguists, a luthier-psychopomp, an Egyptian alchemist and a Dionysian ghost. Religious, mystical and philosophical elements burn in dreams, conversations and events while the narrator seems to be withholding a ghastly truth. Sacrilegious and controversial, "The Song Itself" is a caffeine ingesting, chain smoking tour through an absurd world that is about to explode into flames.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gonzo Storytelling for the Millennials, February 16, 2008
This review is from: The Song Itself: A Gnostic Remembrance (Paperback)
Yaq Cuartz takes the art of gonzo storytelling to the next level. In the tradition of Burroughs, Ginsberg and Thompson he weaves an tale that not only takes the reader on a modern day quest for the elusive holy grail, but also leaves that same reader with the emptiness of knowing there will always be more questions than answers. But just meeting the characters in the novel is worth the journey thru Portland's underground of coffee houses, backrooms, and the minds of its denizens in their quest for knowledge and salvation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellently composed and written, May 8, 2008
This review is from: The Song Itself: A Gnostic Remembrance (Paperback)
He has to deliver the ancient gnostic codex, but so much stands in his way. "The Song Itself: A Gnostic Remembrance" follows the anonymous and ambiguous messenger on his travels to deliver his parcel - pyromaniacal linguists, illusionary and real threats, and more comes to threaten his delivery of the ancient gnostic codex in "The Song Itself: A Gnostic Remembrance", excellently composed and written, and highly recommended to readers who want a fiction with a unique slant and for community library literary fiction shelves.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Song Itself: A Gnostic Remembrance (Paperback)
The text challenges common knowledge, vering into arcane beliefs and passionate sex. I enjoyed the quirky plot and narrative. The Song Itself: A Gnostic Remembrance left me wanting to know more and wondering what more could be known.
