4.0 out of 5 stars Learning to Love, September 17, 2002

This review is from: With A Song In My Heart (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
Jacquelin Thomas has outdone herself with her Contemporary Romance, With A Song In My Heart. It's a wonderful page-turner mixed with some intrigue and outright romantic entanglement. I really enjoyed this book.

Elle Ransom is in love with Brennan Cunningham III. After being together for a while, Elle proclaims her love to Brennan after a night of passionate lovemaking, but it's too much for him to handle, so he skips out in the middle of the night leaving Elle alone and unbeknown to them both, pregnant.

A month later, Brennan resurfaces at Elle's brother's wedding. When she talks to Brennan, he acts as if nothing happened between them. She decides not to tell him about her pregnancy, but he finds out from her co-worker.

Brennan was raised in a loveless household filtered with upper class social status and was never afforded a loving family life. Therefore, his take on love is simple, no commitments. Elle's upbringing was totally opposite because she was raised in a large, loving family environment. Her take on love is simple, honesty, with love and committment. Brennan and Elle's turmoil in making the right decisions for the sake of their baby is further complicated when a part of Brennan's past catches up with him. Now he is faced with two dilemmas.

What Jacquelin Thomas does in "With A Song In My Heart" is take it all to another level. The plot enhancement throughout the story paved the way for a daring climax with a surprise ending. I highly recommend this book and declare this is indeed one of Jacquelin Thomas' best works.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a Wonderful Story, December 5, 2001

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: With A Song In My Heart (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have been following the Ransom family for a couple of years now. I was excited to hear that Elle, the youngest Ransom was getting her own story. Elle makes the announcement in the book UNDENIABLY YOURS that she is pregnant. WITH A SONG IN MY HEART is her story.

Elle Ransom had been in love with Brennan Cunningham III for a while. She even dreamed about marrying him. When Brennan started to show interest in Elle and they got involved, he left Europe and didn't tell her. He left her hi and dry.

At Elle's twin brother Nyle's wedding Brennan shows up. He is friends with the bride. Elle couldn't believe it when he approached her to say hello. He acted as nothing happened. He even wanted to pursue her again.

When Brennan found out that Elle was pregnant he knew it was his child. He confronted her and then asked to marry her. Elle knew Brennan really didn't love her, but she agreed to the marriage.

Brennan decides to tell his family that they were going to get married. His father says that he really didn't have to marry the girl, because she was pregnant. His mother was dead set against it! She thought Elle was just after his money. She didn't think Elle was good enough for her son. Brennan didn't care what his parents thought. His aunt Pookie was happy for him. His mother relents and says that she wants to give them an engagement party.

When they arrive Elle has a funny feeling that all wasn't right! She was definitely on the money! Brennan's old girlfriend Charis shows up and announces that she and Brennan had a baby together. This is the first Brennan heard of a baby. It was surprising that his mother wasn't as shocked as everyone else.

It is so hard to do this review without giving anything away. After this most surprising announcement by Charis the ex, there is so much other stuff happening that I don't want to give it away. I will say that it is a page turner.

In order to get a vivid picture of the characters in this book, especially the Ransom family, you need to read the following books HIDDEN BLESSINGS, FOREVER ALWAYS, FAMILY TIES, LOVE'S MIRACLE, UNDENIABLY YOURS then read WITH A SONG IN MY HEART.

Jacqui Thomas is an excellent writer and a pleasant person. I think she likes to show the bond of family. She also addresses real life issues from a family perspective. I have read all her books and have loved them all. Outside of the Ransom family Saga, she has SOMEONE LIKE YOU, A RESOLUTION OF LOVE that I liked alot. Pick up any of these books and you will definitely be pleased.

4.0 out of 5 stars Where is the romance, January 23, 2002
This review is from: With A Song In My Heart (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have been waiting on this book for a very long time. I love every book Ms.Thomas has put out. I must say this is a very good book. The plot, the setting, the charters are all great. Even the twist had me till the very end. However one thing this book is missing is the romance Ms Thomas normally displays in her books. She leads to the bedroom and stops. I'm not use to that from her. I still gave her 4 stars because the book is great. If you have not read about the other Ramson family please do. You will enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Elle's Story, December 17, 2001
This review is from: With A Song In My Heart (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
Many of us was shocked when Elle made here announcement of her pregnacy by Brennen Cunningham. Elle has had a secret crush on Brennen every since she had a glimpse of him at her job. She has even told her sister that she plans to marry him.

Well in Mrs. Thomas latest book we find out how the couple got together and the roller coaster ride of their relationship. Elle was brought up in a very close family circle. While Brennen wasn't even sure that his parents loved him. And of course this fact causes many problems with Brennen's trust of people and definition of family.

There are many secrets revealed, questions answered and even some asked as to why Brennen feels the way he does. I must worn you that once you pick this book up you will not want to put it down. The secondary characters help to bring everything together. I am sorry to hear that this is the end of the Ransom books. But I hope that Mrs. Thomas will give us an update on them in her future books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Story, December 13, 2001
This review is from: With A Song In My Heart (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
This has been one of the best Ransom family stories Ms. Thomas has written. I have been waiting for Elle's story for a while.

The story has the most twisted plot, starting with Brennan's insecurities with love through the very end, which is startling (to say the least). It is a story about how one woman's love opened her man's heart. There is so much that I would love to say, but it would give the ending away.

For anyone who has been following the Ransom tales, you will love the fact that the whole family makes an appearance. Even Mama Ransom gets down and dirty with Brennan's mother. If you haven't been introduced to the whole Ransom family, you must start with HIDDEN BLESSINGS. Although very well acted (go Cynda Williams and Kim Fields-Freeman), the movie is nothing like the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Song too Sweet!!!, December 12, 2001
This review is from: With A Song In My Heart (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
This was a 283 page turning all nighter, a five starr finale worthy of the memorable Ransom family. Elle Ransom is in love with millionare Brennan Cunningham III 13yrs her senior. Brennan is flattered by Elle's "crush" on him so they began dating. One night after sharing a particularly intimate moment, Elle unknowingly utters the dreaded words Brennan is not prepared to hear, his best offense is a good defense especially for a man that doesn't believe in love or family, RUN. Europe is not enough distance to quail the stirring emotions within Brennan nor could he escape the constant plague Elle has within his thoughts, realizing his mistake in leaving Brennan returns stateside and to Elle.

Elle is hurt by Brennan's disappearence and even more shocked with his sudden return at her twin Nyle's wedding. When Elle found she was pregnant she had quietly resolved to have their child without the love or money of the man that owned her heart. Now, Brennan wants to be a permanent part of his childs life, so he proposes and even though her heart had hoped for an admission of love, Elle accepts.

From the beginning Brennan's mother was against their marriage, his dad seemed ambilvalent, his ex Charis was bent of destroying them before they got started, but his support system of Aunt Pookie and cousins Jordan and Randall had his back. There was enough turmoil, deceit and treachery to keep them from ever making it to the altar let alone sustaining a marriage. Brennan must have been blinded by love since he was clueless to how much he had for Elle.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from cover to cover, Elle did lead Brennan to understand the love of family just like she told him she would, he may have had the age but she had the wisdom as well as the backup of the entire Ransom clan.

I have been reading Jacquelin Thomas' novels since Hidden Blessings, and I have to say that she has not dissappointed me once. Although, this novel lacked romance, it still was an enjoyable story. This story has many twists and turns. I finished this story in 5 hours.
