WOW! If you are a Trisha Yearwood fan, then this is a must-have. Thrilling live performances of songs from Trisha's first three albums plus two bonus songs. Trisha talks between songs about life, her career, and singers that she admires. this video is hard to get, so snap it up while you can. If you don't, you'll regret it. Its a great investment. <Shree>

Nice collection of songs!,

THE SONG REMEMBERS WHEN is not quite as enjoyable as previous releases, but there are songs that make listening fun. Gosh, the title song is just soooo beautiful! "If I Ain't Got You," "One In A Row" written by Willie Nelson, and the touching Matraca Berg tune, "Lying To The Moon" are also great songs. And then there are the singles... I really found this CD harder to get into than prior releases, though it is a pleasant collection to listen to.

I purchased this video a couple of years ago. This VHS tape includes live performances from her first three albums as well as footage of her discussing songs that had meaning to her. If you are a Trisha Yearwood fan then this is a must own!

Laid Back,

The Song Remembers When is another classy release from adult contemporary/country singer Trisha Yearwood. She has a powerful and versatile voice that sounds equally convincing on sentimental ballads and more soulful numbers. The title track falls into the former category. You can tell Trisha was heavily invested in the lyrics based on her passionate vocal performance. As with all of Trisha's records, the harmonies are a highlight. Willie Nelson guests on "Hard Promises to Keep" and his own "One in a Row." Other great songs include "I Don't Fall in Love So Easy" and the mysterious "Mr. Radio." 4 Stars.

One to remember,

Trisha's third album THE SONG REMEMBERS WHEN finds the singer going for a more contemporary country sound. Her strength has always been ballads, she does well with any material she sinks her teeth into, but on her ballads you really get to feel what she's saying, and it comes from the heart. The title track has to be one of her most memorable songs, a song about love lost and remembering it. She does a good version of her idol Linda Ronstadt's "Mr. Radio", and Rodney Crowell's "I Don't Fall In Love So Easy". Other highlights include "Better Your Heart Than Mine", "One In A Row" and the closing "Lying to The Moon". Only a real singer can deliver the image from the heart of the song. Yearwood here is the heart of the song itself.

Memorized every song here,

This is the first country CD I ever bought. Well I shouldn't say I bought it, but it's at my house. I was only a kid and didn't know that it was uncool to like country musc. I listened, memorized and sang along on my way to becoming a country music fan. There is nothing else out there for intelligent people.Every song is a winner as is the norm for the terrifically talented Trisha Yearwood. My faves include the title track, "The Nightengale" "Lying to the Moon" and "Here Comes Temptation." Trisha is my second favourite country singer after Shania Twain. But this album is as good as any Shania has put out. Anyone can enjoy this album wether or not you are a country fan!

This was my 1st Trisha Yearwood album and one of my favorites. I originally acquired this album shortly after it's initial release and witnessing a televised performance of the title song. I was instantly a fan for her strong, yet gentle vocals!
While I sadly lost my original copy! Thanks to Amazon, I am able to enjoy this album once again!

Beautiful Pop/Country From Trisha!!!,

This was Trisha's breakthrough album and rightly so.This is one of her best albums.
Included is the big hit and title track The Song Remembers When, this is a classic song still. Other standouts are the beautiful ballads Hard Promises To Keep which features Willie Nelson on harmonies,The Nightingale and Lying To The Moon. She also does a great cover on Rodney Crowells song I Don't Fall In Love So Easy and Willie Nelsons One In A Row. This album has mainly ballads and it works well for Trisha as ballads really showcase her beautiful voice perfectly. A fine addition to your country collection....

An album full of quality ballads,
By
This review is from: Song Remembers When (Audio CD)
I became a fan of Trisha's from the time I played her debut album, which was full of songs that grabbed my attention instantly. This album is not like that at all - it is one of those albums that sounds more impressive each time you play it. This album is dominated by reflective ballads that suit Trisha ideally. If you want to hear Trisha sing more up-tempo material, there isn't much here, although you will enjoy If I ain't got you.
Among the great ballads here, the title track (about how hearing a certain song can bring back memories), Mr Radio (a cover of a song previously recorded by Linda Ronstadt for her 1982 album, Get closer), One in a row (a cover of an old Willie Nelson song), I don't fall in love so easy (a Rodney Crowell song), The nightingale (an excellent original song) and Lying to the moon (a song written and first recorded by Matraca Berg) are particularly noteworthy, but every song here is a gem. This is a masterpiece from one of the finest country singers of her generation.

This is where I discovered Trisha,

I'll admit it right out front: One of the reasons I didn't go for Trisha Yearwood initially was because of the country music tag placed on her. But a friend of mine turned me on to her because she knew about my being a big Linda Ronstadt fan, and pointing out that Trisha was one as well. This 1993 album was the first of four (so far) Trisha CDs I've bought.Unlike a lot of current Nashville female singers who sound like Ronstadt wanna-bes, Trisha herself isn't one; she has too much respect for Linda. THE SONG REMEMBERS WHEN is a very mature album; the title track is a memorable number, as is the country-boogie "If I Ain't Got You". Trisha does pay homage to the lady she calls the Queen by recording "Mr. Radio", a track from Linda's 1982 album GET CLOSER. As I said before, though, Trisha does not deliberately imitate her hero; she has too much integrity. This album is very worthy, even if, like me, you don't exactly think much of what Nashville has had up their sleeves the last ten years. And Trisha is a great singer, regardless of genre. THE SONG REMEMBERS WHEN is gorgeous proof of that. |
