5.0 out of 5 stars Very Well Written Romance!
I truly enjoy reading Lori Wick's books and I enjoy watching (or should I say reading) her grow as a writer. This was the first book I'd ever read that she wrote and I was hooked. It is very good for the young (teen) reader. A parent would have no worries as to what her daughter was being exposed to. I just finished reading her newest novel "The Rescue" and was...

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but not her best
The first mistake I made was reading Lori Wick's Californian series first. In light of those, all of the rest of her books seem a little mediocre. A Song of Silas started off so slowly I thought I would never get through it but I eventually got involved- not engrossed but involved. The storyline is interesting enough, although I didn't get the same thrilling feeling...

It is very good for the young (teen) reader. A parent would have no worries as to what her daughter was being exposed to. I just finished reading her newest novel "The Rescue" and was able to see how she has grown as an author through the years. I praise God for talented authors such as Lori. (If you enjoy reading Lori Wick's books you should also try new author, Vicki Williamson's, books.)

A Song of Silas started off so slowly I thought I would never get through it but I eventually got involved- not engrossed but involved. The storyline is interesting enough, although I didn't get the same thrilling feeling that I've gotten with some of her other books. I would recommend this only as part of the series, does not hold enough weight on its own.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's good to know, April 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I must admit that I didn't enjoy this second book nearly as much as the first. This book lacked something, and I'm not sure what. I did enjoy the story line. I feel there may have been too many things going on. I wish it had concentrated on Silas and Amy's feelings more and less on her aunt and uncle. Reading about this secondary character's story took away from the specialness of Amy and Silas' budding romance.

I also enjoyed reading about the rest of the Cameron family: Luke and Catherine's struggle during her pregnancy and Julia and Mac's fire then what they learned shortly afterwards. Those things were indeed related to Amy and Silas because they sent Silas in turmoil over the desire to have a child. I'm also appreciative of the fact that Amy was not pregnant at the end of the book. It showed that we don't always get what we want...

I was also a bit taken aback by Philip's sudden appearance. I understand it was an apparent build up for the next book (his story) and what will happen, but it seemed to be a bit out of place.

But with all that said, it was still a good read and well worth the time it took me. I very much enjoyed reading Amy and Silas' story and am happy Silas shaved off his beard and wasn't afraid to fall for an 18 year old woman. It was very sweet!

I can't wait to read the next one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Basic Predictable Love Story, March 24, 2008
This book is a light Christian romance novel set in Wisconsin in the 1800s. It was about two friends developing romantic feelings for each other and the struggle they went through as they saw their relationship changing. The girl also struggled with whether to stay and take care of her father or get married and move out.

This is an enjoyable read if you want something light and easy. It is a nice little story.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very sweet and tender story that continues the original., July 26, 2000
"A Song For Silas" continues the story of the Camerons, a Wisconsin family, and their trials and tribulations throughout life. When Grant Nolan, a friend of the family, breaks his leg, Silas Cameron feels more than obliged to fill in the position of running his farm. There, with Grant's 18-year-old daughter, Amy, Silas becomes closer to God, and to Amy. This story was a very good read. The first book was lighthearted enough, but this story is bubblegummy-sweet on an out-of-control level. Also, some of the characters from the original book don't seem to be that interesting in this entry. However, errors aside, it is a satisfying read, considering how boring a book this COULD'VE been, but was not.

2.0 out of 5 stars A real let-down, considering the original., July 21, 1999
By A Customer
This book was a MAJOR let-down from its predecessor, "A Place Called Home." I barely got through reading it. All of the characters that were so full of life in the original have now become flat, dull, and uninteresting people. The story line plods along VERY VERY slowly, once in a while stopping dead in its tracks to have a printout of a couple of Bible chapters to take up space. Good storyline, mediocre book.
