Book Description

June 1, 2004
Adrian Gamble gets more than he bargained for when he moves to Hartville, a booming mining town in the Colorado highlands. He was hoping for a life of quiet anonymity, but as the new owner of the town's silver mine, he instead finds himself under the voracious scrutiny of everyone in town the moment he arrives. Even Phoebe Williams who runs the mining company's general store tries to keep her distance. Despite her initial misgivings, the recently widowed Phoebe finds herself increasingly attracted to her employer. As Adrian's past comes to light, Phoebe is faced with a choice regarding this man she has come to love and admire. And Adrian must decide whether to stay on the run from his past or confront it so he can finally face the future.

From the Back Cover

When you're running from the past, it always catches up with you. Adrian Gamble fled to Hartville, Colorado, to save his life and the lives of those he loved. All he wants now is to disappear in this little mining town and forget the day that made him a hunted man. But as the new owner of the town mine and general store, anonymity becomes all but impossible, particularly when his relationship with the pretty store manager raises town suspicions. Phoebe Williams is a gentle, young widow trying to move on. Despite her reservations about the store's mysterious new owner, Phoebe wonders if God has brought them together for some special purpose. Can they both put the past behind them in order to secure the future?

4.0 out of 5 stars Can a Wanted Man find peace?, January 30, 2006

Adrian is a wanted man who, name changed, has bought a mine in a small town in Colorado. He is determined to stay unknown, but the town has its' fair share of nosey busybodies who refuse to overlook his every move. He also owns the only store and has one employee to whom he has gotten way too close. Can his love for her be the one thing to cause him to come clean, or must he continue to run? I was very pleased with book 2 in this series and have already started book 3. Thank you Ginny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet book, awesome author, December 9, 2006

Props to a writer who can actually write believable dialogue. Okay part of the storyline stretched believability beyond reason but it was still a fun read. Adrian's got a hidden past; Phoebe's not too keen about her future and both are out to right wrongs or bust.
Aiken's characters are fun to get inside, their lives are usually never dull and even the "sappy romance" you know's bound to come finds new ways to surprise a reader.
