Book Description

September 14, 2001
Turand. A nation abounding in natural beauty. Turandans. A people struggling with the loss of essential connections to their God, their faith and the mystic spirits that long ago inspired them to greatness. Turand now suffers beneath the yoke of enemy occupation by invaders from the distant Sifiq Kingdom. Gregor, known to his subjects as the Dark King of Turand, lives in the nations opulent palace, lavishly entertaining enemy officers while his people endure hunger, deprivation and torture. Alexa, a young priestess, is the only member of the once revered Order of Val to have escaped violent persecution and death by the Sifiq. Her courage flows from unyielding faith. When Alexa mysteriously appears in the kings court to plead for the life of her condemned fiancé, Lord Victor Garogan, Gregor is stunned by the power of her presence and her unwavering devotion to his prisoner. Are the legends regarding Valiria priestesses true? Can he possibly risk releasing a prisoner as dangerous as Lord Garogan? More importantly, can he ever escape the bewildering effect of Alexas haunting, emerald eyes? Merely fantasy? Or, are you one of precious few who will perceive deeper truth?

4.0 out of 5 stars I'm surprised, January 7, 2002

This review is from: Song Of Turand: Legend From Turand: Opening Aria (Paperback)
Never thought I'd read a book that starts like a romance novel. Never thought I'd write a book review. I read this because a friend asked me to tell her what I thought. Well, I started to get interested in the story and the next thing I knew I was halfway through the book. There's something unique in this story. It reaches out to get you when you're not expecting it. The story itself is beautiful. I love the way it's written. I can close my eyes after reading some parts and I can see images as clearly as if they were right in front of me. I hope the subtitle Legends of Turand: Opening Aria means there's more to come. I especially enjoy the spiritual, mystical side. Maybe the book is touched by soemthing beyond what I can feel or touch. One thing is certain. I feel touched after reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, January 3, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Song Of Turand: Legend From Turand: Opening Aria (Paperback)
When I started reading this book, I thought I was snuggling down to read a nice romance story. I should have had a clue there was something different when I read the poem that starts the 1st part. By the time I'd read almost half the book (in one sitting!), I was caught up in the story but really couldn't figure out why. When I finished the book, I felt strange. Yes, there was the romance I'd been looking for. There was also something else. A couple of days later, I just had to go back to look for the something else. I was sure it was there but I couldn't put my finger on it. That's something I don't do very often.

Now I know, this is a book that carries messages. It has its own way to touch people in special ways, especially now with all that's going on in the world. It's almost as if the author saw in advance some of our current problems before they happened. The spiritual aspect of the book is also unique. This book touched my own spirit like nothing I've read in ages. There are important lesons for all of us but it's not like getting a lecture or a sermon. I even told some of my friends about it and they're reading it now. So far, they're reacting just like I did. I can say one thing for sure. This is a book well worth reading. I read it and I'm reading it again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Song of Turand, March 6, 2002

This was a beautiful love story, written descriptively and with an historical flare for words. I was soon caught up in the story and could hardly put the book down. The love story was interwoven with acts of aggression and war and kept me interested from start to finish. I especially enjoyed the characters in the book - they were real, showing a range of emotions, and I felt real empathy for some of the situations they found themselves in. I look forward to the sequel and hope that Ms. Valencia will make this into a series of books that I can look forward to reading long into the future.
