I'm surprised,

This review is from: Song Of Turand: Legend From Turand: Opening Aria (Paperback)
Never thought I'd read a book that starts like a romance novel. Never thought I'd write a book review. I read this because a friend asked me to tell her what I thought. Well, I started to get interested in the story and the next thing I knew I was halfway through the book. There's something unique in this story. It reaches out to get you when you're not expecting it. The story itself is beautiful. I love the way it's written. I can close my eyes after reading some parts and I can see images as clearly as if they were right in front of me. I hope the subtitle Legends of Turand: Opening Aria means there's more to come. I especially enjoy the spiritual, mystical side. Maybe the book is touched by soemthing beyond what I can feel or touch. One thing is certain. I feel touched after reading it.

When I started reading this book, I thought I was snuggling down to read a nice romance story. I should have had a clue there was something different when I read the poem that starts the 1st part. By the time I'd read almost half the book (in one sitting!), I was caught up in the story but really couldn't figure out why. When I finished the book, I felt strange. Yes, there was the romance I'd been looking for. There was also something else. A couple of days later, I just had to go back to look for the something else. I was sure it was there but I couldn't put my finger on it. That's something I don't do very often. Now I know, this is a book that carries messages. It has its own way to touch people in special ways, especially now with all that's going on in the world. It's almost as if the author saw in advance some of our current problems before they happened. The spiritual aspect of the book is also unique. This book touched my own spirit like nothing I've read in ages. There are important lesons for all of us but it's not like getting a lecture or a sermon. I even told some of my friends about it and they're reading it now. So far, they're reacting just like I did. I can say one thing for sure. This is a book well worth reading. I read it and I'm reading it again.

Song of Turand,

This was a beautiful love story, written descriptively and with an historical flare for words. I was soon caught up in the story and could hardly put the book down. The love story was interwoven with acts of aggression and war and kept me interested from start to finish. I especially enjoyed the characters in the book - they were real, showing a range of emotions, and I felt real empathy for some of the situations they found themselves in. I look forward to the sequel and hope that Ms. Valencia will make this into a series of books that I can look forward to reading long into the future.

This story is elegantly written revealing wonderful and distinct characters who display complex layers of human relationships, love, trust, and forgiveness. Within the events of war and strife, a love story is woven transending time and space, in turn giving hope and restoration to a torn nation. This book is enlightening and enjoyable-- worth reading!!

A Skeptic,
By Carol Rayburn (Tennessee) - See all my reviews

I was skeptical about my enjoyment of reading this book. I'm not in to mystical, spiritual, visions or happenings and thought this book would be so unrealistic and far out that I would probably not really like it. I WAS WRONG! Within the first couple of pages I was there right along side the leading female character. I found I would often change sides depending upon what was transpiring at the time. I would come to side with almost each and every character understanding their plights and their reasonings. Interesting is not a strong enough description when reading this book...captivating is. I was brought in right from the beginning and honestly hated to put it down. The author has a phenomenal imagination and to think, it was all dreamt--the characters, their names, the situations, the outcome, etc. And there's more to come. She has used all the spectrums of love that I could think of. The ultimate being loving someone so much you sacrifice for their freedom. She has a knack for putting all the types of love into perspective shown by the characters and their pursuits. She shows us that things really are not what they seem sometimes. We need more information before arriving at conclusions. We can change; we can grow; we can live with happiness as the outcome if we have faith and we love those around us as we love ourselves. It's okay to doubt; it's okay to stray a bit; it's imperative to forgive and to, therefore, ask for forgiveness. Unfortunately, I was only allowed to rate this book with five stars. If more stars were offered, I would have used them. I had to stop many times for reflection of a situation or to reread some of the previous paragraphs again so I could fully understand the implications that were being demonstrated through this remarkable writing. I am a candidate for the next adventure of this author no matter what the subject matter. Simply put, it is good reading.

The Song Of Turand,

This is the beautiful love story of two people brought together by very unusual circumstances, but in spite of intrigue, treachery and civil war going on around them, their love, once discovered, never wavers. Enhancing this are the ingredients of mysticism and spirituality. This is a book with the setting so vividly described, one feels part of it and wants to hurry to the end to see what happens and having done so feels at a loss because there is no more. It is a story to read over and over again while waitingfor the sequel.

More than meets the eye,
By Kate Fischer (Columbus, OH) - See all my reviews

Love stories come in many forms. On the surface, Song of Turand is the story of the romance between Alexa and Gregor. It is also the story of the love of a monarch for his people and his kingdom. Still, on another level it is a story of spiritual love and redemption. The author's use of vivid imagery makes this novel a joy to read. I couldn't put it down. The title leads us to believe that there is more to come. I for one will have a diffcult time waiting.

I read much but rarely have time for reviews. This book touches me so different and so I must say how I feel. Song of Turand feels real to me. Characters in this book feel real. They fill up emotions in themselves and in this reader who did not suspect how she would remember them for months after she did read this book.
The challenges these people face are the kinds people do face in every land. They lost their faith as we lose our faith. They needed love and did give love as we try in our own world. They saw great powers above or beyond them. How they reacted to this power brought them to the most opposite sides of what human beings can face and either to fail completely or to conquer. I am fascinated with this book and think that this review cannot begin to say how this reader feels. I can say honestly that this reader's life will never forget reading this book. |
