5.0 out of 5 stars A heart warming tale, October 1, 2000
This review is from: Song of the Unicorn (Audio CD)
Oct 1st was Children's Day in Singapore. That evening, "Song of the Unicorn" narrated by J.Irons was played on FM92.4 by one of our classical channel DJ, Andrew Lim, to wish all listeners "Happy Children's Day". I usually tune in to the jazz channel on Sundays evenings but last night, I was lucky to tune in to the narration of this heart warming story. I was reading then and as the tale unfolded in J.Irons' strong, unique and wonderfully soothing voice, I was mesmerised and totally enraptured and actually put down my novel to listen intently to the tale, the lovely music and the sweet childish voices of Owen and Maggie, two main characters in the story. The fairy tale of the unicorn was a touching story to listen to in this day and age of hitech and advanced technolgy. It is a fantasy to indulge in for the children and for all those of us who wants to nurture and enrich the child in us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classical Kids - Song of the Unicorn/Jeremy Irons, December 4, 1999
This review is from: Song of the Unicorn (Audio CD)
I listened to this on the radio this morning with my 5 year old daughter. We stumbled on it, and it captivated us...particularly the narrator. we listened for about 15 minutes and only when it was over did we realize it was a new Classical Kids CD, narrated by Jeremy Irons. We have many of the other Classical kids CDs, and this is by far one of the best and every bit as good as Beethoven Lives Upstairs! Jeremy Irons is as good a story teller as Meryl Streep, another of our favorites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for kids!, January 29, 2000
This review is from: Song of the Unicorn (Audio CD)
I happened to be tuned to KING-FM this morning, the last Saturday in January, when Marta Zekan came on with her Classical Kid-FM program. Usually, I work around the house while listening to the music with half an ear. But today I actually sat down and totally enjoyed the whole captivating, magical story with no doing-this and doing-that. The story and the music chosen to go with it are both delightful! I fancy sending this CD to my former favorite person who is forever a kid at heart and from whom, over two decades, I gleaned a richer appreciation of a wide variety of music.

5.0 out of 5 stars My kids can not get enough of this CD, October 30, 2004
This review is from: Song of the Unicorn (Audio CD)
I am so sick of Song of the Unicorn. It is the #1 request any time we are in the car from both my 2 year old son and four year old daughter. My 9 year old nephew also asks for it whenever he happens to be in the car with us. My children have both picked up some new vocabulary words (as well as an English accent). The CD disappeared for awhile, I couldn't imagine where it had gone. It turns out my husband "borrowed it" for his car. My husband is not a reader and does not appreciate classical music. He loves it. This CD is for all ages...anyone who loves a good story. But be warned...you may get tired of it after your children request it every car ride for 6 months straight!

5.0 out of 5 stars NOT just for music students or gifted children, July 15, 2002
By A Customer
My daughter got this CD for her 6th birthday and absolutely loves it. So do I. My daughter isn't a music student and I don't thinks she's a "gifted" child (although I'm not quite sure what that means). But she often asks to play this CD and remains captivated by it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Beautiful, October 14, 2005
This review is from: Song of the Unicorn (Audio CD)
Unlike the other mom who has gotten tired of listening to this CD over and over, I haven't. My kids (8, 6 and 4) are silent for the whole duration of this cd making car trips so much more pleasant. The music is gorgeous, simply gorgeous. I love that my kids are enjoying beautiful, thoughtful music and a sweet story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Song of the Unicorn enchants all, October 24, 2008
This review is from: Song of the Unicorn (Audio CD)
The cd "Song of the Unicorn" is an enchanting blend of music and fantasy, with a touch of historical fiction added. The music is a great introduction to music of the medieval and early renaissance period. It provides interesting examples of monophonic music as a part of the story. The Song of the Unicorn includes bits of the Arthurian legend that may go over the heads of younger listeners.

The disc also includes cd rom section with pictures to color, which are not as closely related to the story as they might be. There is information on Gregorian chant and music notation, and sheet music of the renaissance tune "Early One Morning" written for two recorders and voice.

This disc would be great for music, language arts, and social studies classes for third to seventh grades. It is also beautiful enchanting story for younger children who enjoy fantasy.

My only criticism is the section about music of the future. It is not necessary for the story

I teach Music History and have found this cd to be a very useful tool in introducing young people to Medieval and Renaissance music. The story is engaging and the music is wonderful. All my students who had said they hated this style of music had a change of heart after listening to this cd. Recommended for the private and public school teacher.

4.0 out of 5 stars lovely music, October 28, 2010

This is a lovely story that incorporates beautiful music. Other than the more common defaming slant of Morganne, the story is well told and my 6 year old enjoys it greatly.
