Product Description

Joel Peters is a studio musician living a contented - if uneventful - life, when he is approached by a mysterious stranger who asks for his help in locating a lost book that may have the power to destroy all of Creation. Joel isn't inclined to believe the man's story, but the foot-tall dwarf with ADD-like symptoms that appears after the man inexplicably vanishes convinces him otherwise.

Trusting the man, Joel and the dwarf travel to Alera, a world that has never heard of music. Here, Joel discovers that his guitar and his music give him incredible magical powers. While trying to master his newfound abilities, Joel must travel through a hostile landscape to a ruined city and learn why he is the only person who can find the book and save Creation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Glad I read it, November 14, 2010
This review is from: SongMaster's Realm (Kindle Edition)
I liked this story. Alan Dean Foster did it better in his SpellSinger series, but I think this author's on the right track. It ends on sort of a cliffhanger; perhaps subsequent books will fill out the details. I think the author could have perhaps marketed this towards the YA readers, and there are parts where plot details are a little skimpy, but overall the writing is strong, particularly the dialogue. I, for one, am hoping he'll continue to write, as I'm kind of hooked on the story so far.

I was actually sent here from his YouTube video previewing the book - it's worth a look. Makes you really want to read the book.

All in all, worth the read, particularly for the price. Give it a shot!

More About the Author

When not scribbling furiously on the back of a napkin, Wolfram Donat is pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering. It is very possible that being struck by lightning three times has had an adverse affect on both his writing style and his ability to juggle.

"I'm tallish," he says, "with hair, and four limbs attached in approximately the correct places." As you read this, he is probably sitting on the sofa in his underwear, eating Fudgsicles and dreaming of being a superhero.

He currently lives in Anchorage, AK with his wife, son and menagerie of animals. He can be reached via email with comments, suggestions, requests and raisin bran recipes at wolf AT wolframdonat.com.
