5.0 out of 5 stars Rosalyn Diasey can help even a novice painter look great!, November 18, 2001
By
This review is from: Songbird Carving II (v. 2) (Hardcover)
My husband, Ron, is an excellent carver and has been doing songbirds for about ten years. He brings life to his carvings by burning the feathers in with such detail nearly everyone reaches out to "pet" his birds. This past year he decided to go beyond the "natural" look and asked me to paint a robin so that the gift to our grandson would be from both of us.
I had only worked with watercolors previously and so, having had no experience with acrylic painting, I was still able to follow the instructions in this wonderful book and came out with a robin that looked very real. In fact, when painting one day, I had to answer the door and the guest flinched, thinking I was holding a real robin. Now if I can only come up with her instructions for painting a blue bird and/or a blue herron I would be grateful beyond words.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent step-by-step instructions and reference material, March 7, 2011
This review is from: Songbird Carving II (v. 2) (Hardcover)
I find that Roz Daisey's books are well organized and provide excellent, step-by-step instructions for both the beginning carver as well as experienced carvers. Each book takes you through several projects from start to finish with detailed photos and easy to understand text. All aspects are covered in just the right level of detail including bird anatomy, dimensions, tools, the carving process, stoning techniques, burning feathers, and painting the completed bird. By breaking down the process into bite size chunks in both her books and in her hands-on seminars, Roz Daisey has opened up the world of carving to those like me who never thought they could create such works of art. I can't wait until her new book on carving animals is published later this year.

I purchased Vol. I and thought why didn't I know about this book, so when I saw Vol. II; it wasn't difficult to decide I had to get it also. Both are excellent sources of references for specific birds. Any one who wants to learn or improve your skills, these are books to have. Joe Saxton; Varna, Il.

5.0 out of 5 stars Song Bird Carving II by Rosalyn Daisey, July 3, 2010
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Songbird Carving II (v. 2) (Hardcover)
As a bird carver I found this book very descriptive,

loaded with excellent measurements for each project.

The author backs the measurements by quoting her source.

sizes and measurement for each part each and every

part of the bird, including the beaks. The author included

photographs and an excellent painting instruction for folks

like me that put off painting my project for lack of knowledge.

I recommend this book for all aspiring bird carvers.

Oscar

Barbara has done a great job again in helping those of us who like to carve birds. She repeats a lot of the basic information that she covered in her first book but I guess this is necessary for those who did not buy the first one. She includes the instructions for 5 birds. She goes into such details as carving feathers, the shapes of beaks and legs/feet, and especially the wings and tails. It would be great for beginners and experienced carvers alike. I showed my copy to a friend who has carved birds for a long time and he immediately ordered a copy.
