5.0 out of 5 stars Good single, June 6, 2005
This review is from: Songbird (Audio CD)
A good Oasis single, this is one of Liam's first (early?) tunes, and it's a short, pleasant number. Catchy. Don't know what else to say, it works for me. The B-Sides are of value as well. You've Got the Heart is another Noel belter, it's like he just bangs out catchy tunes at breakfast.

The live track Columbia is fantastic, sounding more powerful than the studio version, an irrestible live song. A good Oasis single, marked down quite a bit in stores, but worth the pickup.

5.0 out of 5 stars Way to Go Liam!!!!, May 28, 2005
This review is from: Songbird (Audio CD)
The title track, "Songbird", is Liam Gallagher's 2nd song writing contribution to the Oasis vault. And it's definitely a step up from "Little James" on SOTSOG. I was first a little disappointed that this track is only 2 plus minutes long, but I now think it works best this way. A very beautiful song, which has to have been written for his lady. Simple, poignant, and a great asset to the Oasis team.

Second track - You've Got the Heart of a Star... man, I've got to tell you. Noel Gallagher and his b-sides, blow my mind. I consider myself to be the BIGGEST Oasis fan around, but this guy.. if he could write a solo album, of all acoustic stuff, I'd be the happiest man in the world.

Third track - a live version of "Colombia." Maybe the funnest song off their debut, "definitely maybe," they hit it on the nose with this performance. You can't help but tap your foot, and sing along. I've seen this performed live, and it's one of my faves. A great addition to end this disc!

5.0 out of 5 stars Liam's First Single Excellent, February 26, 2003
This review is from: Songbird (Audio CD)
Who Needs Noel? Well, maybe that is an overstatement. Liam, however, does a great little two minute ditty on this track. B-sides You've Got the Heart of a Star recall Noel's Singer/Songwriter talents and the live version of Columbia is Spot On!

5.0 out of 5 stars Never underestimate Liam's songwriting talents, March 5, 2003
This review is from: Songbird (Audio CD)
So, Liam gave us fans a little taste of what was yet to come on Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants with his songwriting debut "Little James". This time he really shows us what he's capable of, with this beautiful love song. It's an acoustic ballad, with simple but meaningful romantic lyrics. A tribute to the feeling of being in love and being loved back. Liam's Lennonesque vocals sound awesome. This song is right next to John Lennon's best romantic songs in my book. Noel also shows us that he can still write beautiful acoustic ballads with "You've Got The Heart of a Star", one of the best acoustic songs he's written in the past few years. It's one of those "B-side-shoulda-been-A-side" kind of songs. And the live version of Columbia is the bomb, kind of different from the original version on Definetely Maybe. It shows us how Oasis can change the arrangements of a song and still make it sound just as good.
