5.0 out of 5 stars "Songbirds & Roosters" is pure poetry
"Songbirds & Roosters" haunts the heart and mind with lyrics, ripe with poetic images. Rosa's own description of his song writing process as setting poems to music is no hyperbole. These lyrics are poetry. Although Rosa's ability to explore the dark, edgier side is obvious in hit songs like "Livin' La Vida Loca," which he co-wrote for Ricky...

2.0 out of 5 stars Stabbing your eardrums with toothpicks would be more entertaining...
Dear God - this is pretentious, bland pop trash at it's worst.

First, right out of the way, let me say that I was looking forward to getting this disk, after listening to a snippet of the first track, 'Embryo'.

Also let me say, I hadn't listened to any of Rosa's solo albums prior to that snippet, but I was a big fan of his work with Maggie's...

"Songbirds & Roosters" haunts the heart and mind with lyrics, ripe with poetic images. Rosa's own description of his song writing process as setting poems to music is no hyperbole. These lyrics are poetry. Although Rosa's ability to explore the dark, edgier side is obvious in hit songs like "Livin' La Vida Loca," which he co-wrote for Ricky Martin, the 11 tracks on "Songbirds & Roosters" dig deeper into the dark recesses of the soul. The lyrics on tracks such as "Junkie," "Lifeless Clown" and "Nymph" reveal a unique ability on Rosa's part to combine dark poetic images with haunting phrases such as "songbirds & roosters are dancing in my veins" and "spooning the butterflies I would die for you." The combination of acoustic and electric guitar on tracks such as Rosa Maria (Cruzando Puertas) is startling and yet romantic. His voice is soft, deep and comforting. Can't wait to hear what comes next from this artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this album completely!Pure exhibition of Draco's talent, November 4, 1999
By A Customer
Draco has combined the most beautiful music from "Frio" with amazingly deep and dark lyrics that make a classic blend of the music that never wears off. The echo of these haunting musical arrangements will stay with me forever. This album is a the creation of a gifted song writer, musician and producer. Most especially enjoy Draco's talents on "Junkie" & "Mourning Gun"

In this CD you will find the same melodies from "Frio" but with different lyrics what makes it very interesting cause who can make a Cd with old music and at the same time make all new with fresh lyrics... It is amazing how he portrays all his life in this Cd....Like he mostly do... songs that I like from this work are Blindman's parade, Nymph, Lifeless Clown.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, December 12, 2002

It's awesome that someone could give you the feeling you get when you hear a song for the first time all over again with the same songs. This album is just great. You get used to "Frio" , then you get the same songs you love in english and it works wonderfully.I could not believe my ears the first time. This is an excellent piece of art and it should be in your collection.

I have all of Draco's cds including Maggie's Dream and Songbirds & Roosters is my favorite of them all especially the title song the way he weaves his words telling his story you can really feel what he is feeling. You can almost picture the stories he's telling as he wails his soul out for everyone to share.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece!!, October 9, 2001

i'm a very big draco fan. but when i knew that this album had the same music as in "frio", i was a little dissapointed. i think i was expecting fresh, new music. but as i said, i'm a big fan of draco, i started to focus on the lyrics. the lyrics are new and haunting. very poetic, dark, but at the same time there's love and romance involved(in his own draco way). he has a great voice, as a leading singer, as well as making his own background voice. fantastic! the real masterpiece is "vagabundo", but this one is up there!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Draco's vagabond soul, January 17, 2006
By
Diana (Tasmania, Australia) - See all my reviews
For those not familiar with Frio (and for those who don't speak Spanish!) this album is It. Welcome to the world of Draco Rosa, where words are portals to a separate existence and the human spirit can escape the confines of static emotion. Songbirds & Roosters is lyrical escapism at its best. Simple, effective instrumentation and melody allow the listener to indulge in the emotive journey of the lyrics and Draco's dark vocals are somehow soothing and unsettling both at once. The album's underlying melancholy reaches its blackest with "Lifeless Clown" and does not completely dissolve even beneath the romance of "Sunshine" or the relative brightness of the opening track, "Embryo." The stand-out track? "Mourning Gun," featuring Draco's voice over solo electric guitar, is a haunting and unforgettable musical experience that captures the artist's self-proclaimed romantic streak as well as his inscrutable instinct for poetic depth. A fine album by a fine artist - very much worth the purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Therapeutic Draco, August 16, 2001

He's brilliant!!
