Songbirds: A Surround Sound Experience [SACD]

As far as the birds go, this is perfect. I wanted to hear birds, but I didn't want to feel like I was in an overcrowded aviary, which is how a lot of the bird CDs sound to me. This has birds and quiet spots, which I find more relaxing. The sound quality is superb. The description says it's 5.1, but it's really 4.0. There is nothing in the center channel and none of the birds sing low enough to even come close to providing anything for a subwoofer to reproduce. Those aren't complaints, though, just observations. The surround mix is great. There are 14 tracks, but you can't tell when the tracks change, so it just sounds like one long recording when you listen to it.

My only criticism is that somewhere around track 5 the sound of water in a brook shows up and sticks around for several tracks, after which it fades away. I'd much prefer this without the water because the sound of water doesn't relax me. I can't explain why, but when I hear water in these kinds of CDs, I find myself concentrating on the sound of the water, and a major reason I listen to something like this is to not concentrate on anything. Anyway, it's not obnoxious water, as in it doesn't sound like someone splashing in a bathtub or anything like that, so if you like the sound of a gentle brook mixed in with your bird sounds you should enjoy it.

Quality of the disc is poor. Have played this CD in two different players. The same track sticks in same location and continues to play one segment over and over. Cannot advance beyond this point. Very frustrating? Will never buy another "Songbird" CD.

Many of the tasks I am assigned are routine, repetative, and require intense concentration. The work flows easily with bird song playing in the background. It sounds as if I were sitting in the fields or forests with the birds. I can hear trees rustling, water flowing, and the breeze as the birds call to one another. It's the closest thing to being there that I know of.

This is a very nice, relaxing product from DAN GIBSON. If you see his name on a product of any kind that you need, you have a high chance to get satisfied with the product.

When I put this SACD on I thought the bird songs were coming from a LIVE bird outside my window! I then realized that my amp had warmed up and was playing this incredible recording. A MUST for any audiophile city dweller...

I am very pleased with this CD. It's the next best thing to being outside with the real birds. I especially appreciate the background sounds. I can close my eyes and picture myself outside on a cool summer evening (with no mosquitos). Love this CD.

Bought this item at AMazon as local pet shop never had it in stock. My parakeet enjoys listening to it.

Great CD. We have 2 finches and after listening to this CD , our finches have developed quite a few new "songs". They are as happy listening to this CD as we are!

While I enjoy birds and bought this because of the SACD 5.1 the grinding tape noise is too loud and defeats the purpose of SACD.
The water noise half way through maybe put in to cover the tape noise????
