5.0 out of 5 stars Songbook 1, December 17, 2008
This review is from: Songbook 1 (Audio CD)
I have been in love with Celtic music since 6th grade and have since collected over 100 Celtic CDs. I found Cecile Corbel on Myspace where the first song I heard was "Suil a Ruin" on her album "Songbook 1." I was amazed at her arrangements for this famous song which made it for the first time danceable. At this time Amazon didn't carry this CD so I had to order it from her website. Because my US dollars didn't travel to far in her native country and with shipping I ended up paying thirty dollars for it. I received it, fell in love with it, played it non-stop for like a week straight, and introduced it to my friends. Even my friends who aren't into Celtic music either liked or loved it. First time hearing this album, for me, felt like the first time I ever heard Celtic music back in '94. It is well worth the thirty dollars (which I paid again for her latest album) and if for any reason this disc gets damaged I would spend that much again if I had to.

Cecile Corbel is a budding young artist from the Celtic region of Brittany in France. Her voice and talented harp playing embodies the Celtic culture where nature and the ethereal intermingle, and magic is not known as some far off thing but tangible by every one on an every day bases. Her music seems both too beautiful to exists in this world simultaneously too rooted in the beauty and awe of nature to not have it as part of its fundamental core.

I highly recommend any one at the least slightly interested in Celtic music to listen to a few sample tracks. Google her and you'll get to her website where you can hear some of her songs. You'll see what I mean.

5.0 out of 5 stars A true original, June 20, 2009
This review is from: Songbook 1 (Audio CD)
When I first heard Cecile Corbel's version of 'Suil a ruin' I must admit I was astounded. What had she done to this beloved traditional!? On hearing it a second, a third, a fourth time her interpretation rang true with me, and I wanted to hear more. I bought the album. It didn't take me long to get hooked.
Cecile takes traditional tunes and ancient ballads and turns them into something quite new and fresh. Her distinctive, somewhat fragile voice reminds me of a young Kate Bush at time and conjures images of elves wandering a dark medieval wood. Her delicate harp playing is a delight to listen to. The accompanying artists on guitar, cello, drums and other instruments are excellent.
'Valse des ondines', an original instrumental song is such a lovely, enchanting waltz I even ordered the sheet music so I could try my hand at it myself.
Truly original Celtic music from a rising star from Brittany!
You can sample her music on her youtube channel:[...] which has some great live performances.
