A cracking guitar album!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Songbook 2 (Audio CD)
Vic Juris is hardly a household name, but he has been making quality records for Steeplechase throughout the 90's. Juris was born in 1953 in New York and has played, among others, with Sonny Stitt, Gary Peacock, David Liebman, Phil Woods and Michel Legrand. In this 2002 outing he sticks mostly to older, pre-1960 material. However, he finds a surprisingly freshness in old Broadway tunes such as "Golden Earrings" and "Poor Butterfly" and the record sounds very modern. Juris seems to have found his own voice judging on this particural record. It is possible to hear echoes of Pat Metheny and Kurt Rosenwinkel, but they are well assimilated. I'd recommend this record to everyone interested in jazz guitar playing.
