Overall, I really enjoyed the basic idea of this album. However, the Rodgers and Hammerstein Songbook CD is unlike other Songbook CDs of the other great American tunesmiths of the first half of this century in the fact that the songs never transcend out of their Broadway setting. Porter, Gershwin and Berlin all wrote great Broadway songs that soon crossed over into being standards on their own right, but Rodger's and Hammerstein's songs aren't allowed to do that on this album. Instead, it's just a compilation of tracks from Broadway soundtracks that have been previously released. Other than that, it's a good selection with first-rate songs.

Brings back fond memories of broadway style music and the genius of composers of the pre and post WW2 era.
