Johnson at his BEST.,

This review is from: Songs From Albion 2 (Audio CD)
I had heard some wonderful cuts by Jeff Johnson on "Echoes" & "Thistle and Shamrock", but was disappointed by his "St. Brendan" production. Then I heard this CD. These ARE the rich textural keyboards that produce the "haunting" effect mentioned in published reviews. Put this wonderful effort together with Brian Dunning's ethereal flute plus the occasional pipes and this is Celtic/New Age-ish music that floats gently in the clouds. Johnson and Dunning seem to know exactly "how much is enough", especially on the first three cuts of the album, which are wonderful to listen to on a long drive. Two thumbs up!!

Best of the trilogy,

I thought "Songs from Albion" really enhanced my reading experience... In fact, I performed a reading for some of my friends and played the CD's during the reading. They loved it so much they bought the CD's and the books! Vol 2 is my favorite, but all three are great! If you like good Keltic music these are for you; whether or not you read Stephen Lawhead's books.

DO NOT RECOMMEND,

I do not recommend these CD's at all, at all! They are all well good for those of you out there who like the sappy Celtic modern music, but for you who like the traditional Celtic, this CD is NOT for you. I have read the books by Steven Lawhead (that these CD's are supposed to be based on) The Song Of Albion, three times though and I did not get the idea of music like this. The Song Of Albion invokes in the reader a feel for true Celticness and mysticism and with these Cd's you find yourself flung not into the Steven Lawhead Otherworld, but more into that of Xena, Warrior Princess. Not good. If you love Llew and Teged and Cynan and Bran and all of them, and love the world they are in, it will not help you to see the vision more clearly by setting it to music of our own age.
