Editorial Reviews

Joseph Canteloube’s compositions gained him eminence in French musical life, and his folk music research and arrangements added treasure to the heritage of song. His settings of Songs of the Auvergne are classics of their kind, and this rendition by the brilliant Netania Davrath is a jewel in the Vanguard crown. Remixed and remastered from the original session master tapes, Davrath’s soprano is perfectly adapted here to the Auvergne dialect and lends richness, beauty, and charm to this extraordinary musical compilation. A DualDisc is a two-sided disc made up of a CD on one side and a DVD on the other, DualDisc’s breakthrough technology allows one disc to have it all. A full album on the CD side. All sorts of special material on the DVD side, including the full album in a 5.1 Surround Sound, exclusive video content and lyrics. DualDisc work wherever you play CD’s and DVD’s, including car stereos, PC’s DVD Players, game consoles and CD players.

5.0 out of 5 stars Songs of the Auvergne - Netania Devrath, June 23, 2009
This review is from: Songs of the Auvergne [DualDisc] (Audio CD)
Excellent - Devrath sings beautifully and naturally - this is the best version of these songs in my opinion. The transfers are excellent also - clear and forward and in god balance. A joy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tip top, February 1, 2011
This review is from: Songs of the Auvergne [DualDisc] (Audio CD)
This is one of the greatest recordings of folk music arranged for orchestra and singer there has ever been. The instrumentation is rich and credible, evoking pastoral scenes. The singer's voice is flawless, her musical sense sublime. We hear a beautiful woman, and yet also a mischievious little girl. Rather than a performance it seems like we are hearing ancient pasturelands, and we are left wishing that we could run to the other side of the hillside and meet this unspoiled beauty. Or is it just me?

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect voice for this stylized folk music, December 4, 2011
This review is from: Songs of the Auvergne [DualDisc] (Audio CD)
Kiri has the peaches and cream, but this is still the recording I end up coming back to.
Perfect match of voice and diction to music.
