This review is from: Songs of Bob Dylan (Audio CD)
The idea behind this CD is that it would be a compilation of Bob Dylan songs by various artists, with none of the songs having been released by Dylan himself. Unfortunately for the producers of this CD, Dylan's own versions of most of these songs ended up being released on The Bootleg Series, Vols. 1-3 : Rare And Unreleased, 1961-1991 shortly before this CD came out. Which sort of renders this CD pointless, in theory. But in reality this is a good compilation of some lesser known Dylan compositions. Songs are done in a wide variety styles; including folk, pop, country, reggae, blues and various combinations of those styles. Most of the performers give very good renditions of these songs. I particularly like the songs by Manfred Mann, Johnny Cash, Rick Nelson, the Raiders, the Hollies and the Staple Singers. This CD is well worth hearing, even if Dylan's own versions of these songs are readily available now.
