4.0 out of 5 stars Good collection of songs. Decent remakes and okay originals, September 2, 2002

Mr. Wynn (State of Confusion) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Songs From the Book (Audio CD)
So here's another collection of songs from Christian artists. I originally purchased this because of Amy Grant's song "Nothing is Beyond You." She sings this beautifully. Although it was previously released on another collection, it adds to teh richness of this collection.

A few surprises pop up in this compilation. Amy Grant's "El Shaddai" is remade by Winans Phase 2. Must be another formation of the Winans family siblings. Although Amy Grant sings back-up towards the end of the song, the feel is a bit different. It's more urban. Not quite the powerful force to be reckoned with as the original Amy Grant version. I give them an E for Effort. I will say that they made the right decision to have Amy sing in their version, which I personally feel redeems the song. As they say, if it ain't broke.... (Although, Amy Grant did rerecord "El Shaddai" in the 90's as an acoustic version and it is AMAZING! Available as a "B-Side" on her "Takes a Little Time" CD single).

Another Amy Grant classic is remade by Ginny Owens--"Thy Word." Ginny brings her own qualities to it. But again--if it ain't broke.... It's not bad. I just think that Amy's innocent pure quality in the original cannot be topped. Ginny tried and did make it her own. Just personal taste, perhaps.

Some other highlights on this album: Jaci Velasquez's "God So Loved", "Jesus Is" by Point of Grace, Sandi Patty and BeBe Winan duet on "He Watches Over You", Steven Curtis Chapman's "Sometimes He Comes in the Clouds" and the gorgeous "You are Holy" by 4Him.

Is this CD wroth buying? If you have the money, sure. Try to buy the used ones. Same quality, just not in it's original wrapper. The songs will bless you anyway.

5.0 out of 5 stars my all time favorite cd, March 9, 2001

This review is from: Songs From the Book (Audio CD)
I absolutely LOVE this cd. There are 3 songs on it that bring tears to my eyes everytime I listen to it. "Nothing is Beyond You", "Beauty for Ashes", and "Thy Word". When I first got it last fall I couldn't stop listening to it for a month straight. I love how all the lyrics are from the Bible and as you listen to it, you meditate upon God's Word too. Listening to this CD definitely brings me closer to God and renews my faith.

5.0 out of 5 stars A true blessing to all who hear it!!, June 30, 1999

Songs from the Book is a wonderful CD full of the praises of GOD! I love the entire CD. But "El Shaddai" by Winans Phase II is a particular favorite of mine. These are a group of great guys who love the lord and I respect them for that. I'm glad to say that I know these guys and I wish the best of success on their upcoming Cd "We Got Next". It's a treasure. God Bless!

5.0 out of 5 stars I finally found "The Book"!, October 24, 2004
This review is from: Songs From the Book (Audio CD)
I bought the CD used just so I could finally get my hands on "The Book" by Michael Card (I heard it on the radio once and it's taken me two years- no joke- to track it down). So now I finally have that song, which is incredible, but I was pleasantly suprised to find out that everything else is really good too. A little oln the slow side, perhaps, but good nonetheless. El Shaddai is an interesting remix. Buy the CD- I suggest getting it used because it's so much cheaper. I go mine for 59 cents, which I think was a steal.

I borrowed the cassette from a friend and on listening,it was as if heaven came down, I just couldn't stop listening to its melody and I even refused to return the cassette back to the owner becuase I wouldn't let go and so I decided to dub it but now I wish I have a copy of my own. As of now, I've mastered the whole wordings of all the songs in the album.I reaaly thank God for giving those guys inspiration to accomplis such a thing, I wish there were more stars to rate this thing, I would over-rate it because it's just fantastic.I even listen to the songs every blessed day because it's also a source of inspiration too.God bless.

This review is from: Songs From the Book (Audio CD)
The basis cannot be challenged. The songs are a true inspiration. This CD brings together some of the best music I enjoy. It helps me to bring true praise and worship to my living Savior the Lord Jesus Christ. It helps remind me of the truth in His Word and that He is coming back soon to take His own.

This is great Christian music! The songs such as, God So Loved The World, The Book, and Beauty For Ashes, are all wonderful, inspiring songs that are so popular right now.The music is easy to listen to and appeals to many different musical tastes. It is a good mix of male and female artists, some harmonies of the two. This is great music!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Collection from some of the best in Christian music, May 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Songs From the Book (Audio CD)
This collection includes some of the best in Christian music...Amy Grant, Jaci Velasquez, Steven Curtis Chapman, Crystal Lewis, Sixpence None the Richer and Point of Grace to name a few. The highlight for me was the second song on the project,"El Shaddai" by Winans Phase 2 (with a cameo by Amy Grant!)Other stand outs include "One Voice," a trio performed by Anointed,Bryan Duncan and Crytal Lewis and "Thy Word" by newcomer Ginny Owens. If you like collections, this a great one. It's full of hits!
