Priya Thomas is a Canadian musician. Her ancestors are from South India. She grew up playing Indian music before she discovered rock music. These contradictions are at the heart of Priya's art. In her music, you hear strains of Indian music meshing with Sinead O'Connor to produce something distinct from the sources. The opening track "Digging for Gold" is a wonderful blending of these influences. I have been playing this disc constantantly since I got it. I listed it as one of the best of 2002 in an article for INK 19 magazine. When I dj on local community radio, I almost always get calls asking about the disc. Music for Car Commercials is definitely worth checking out.
