The CD that got me into Techno-Dance-Industrial Music,
By
This review is from: Songs From The Cool World (Audio CD)
I will always remember this CD as being THE CD that got me into Techno music. I still like it to this very day. The movie it came from was interesting, but not very good, but the soundtrack is fantastic. I tell anyone interested in finding out about Techno-Dance/Industrial music to get this CD early on. Various styles exist on this soundtrack, but all of the songs are all good in their own way. An excellent CD to find out what styles of Techno you like. My favorite songs are the Tompson Twins - Play With Me (Techno-Dance/pop), MLWTTKK - Sex on Wheels (Techno-Industrial), and F.S.O.L. - Papua New Guinea (Techno-Electronica). The closest other CD to this would be "The Crow" Soundtrack (More Industrial in flavor though). Highly Recommend.

You can usually find this album for fairly little money, and it's well worth the purchase. I've never actually seen the film itself, but it does not have a good reputation, even as a cult film. Not so for this soundtrack, which plays a lot like somebody's personal mix tape of favorite songs. This is unusual, since I've noticed that a lot of soundtracks feature one or two good songs combined with a track list full of discarded songs from bands on the label's roster.
But not this one. Whoever compiled this for the film was really savvy, because there isn't much filler here at all. Some of the tracks are very radio friendly, like Electronic's "Disappointed" and Thrill Kill Kult's "Sex On Wheelz", which surpassed even Bowie's custom-composed title track and wound up being the music used to promote the film in trailers and TV spots. TKK kollectors should get this because they're on here twice, the second track being an otherwise unreleased track called "Her Sassy Kiss". There are some interesting club cuts on here too, like Moby's "Next Is The E" and the rave classic "Papau New Guinea" by The Future Sound of London. One of the biggest surprises is the contribution from Thompson Twins, "Play With Me", which is a very solid club track. Twins member Tom Bailey also adds an atmospheric instrumental track called "Industry and Seduction", the only time he ever released a solo effort as such. Even the tracks by artists that you might not recognize (like Pure's "Greedy", which doesn't even appear in the film) are worth a listen. Highly recommended!

Musical Ecstasty,
By A Customer
This review is from: Songs From The Cool World (Audio CD)
This is a Must-Have soundtrack if you like New Wave, electronic/techno music - almost every song is outstanding. Especially cool tracks are Electronic's Disappointed (side project of New Order's Benard Sumner and Smith's Johnny Marr, guest vocals Pet Shop Boys' Neil Tennant), Moby's Ah-Ah, David Bowie's 'Real Cool World', & Future Sound of London's Papua New Guinea.

I remember this well,
This review is from: Songs From The Cool World (Audio CD)
I remember when this movie came out - 1992 which only seems like yesterday to me. I only saw when it was on cable TV, about a year later. Strange premise for a movie, but not the first time animation and live action were done together. The soundtrack was right for the film. Also, of an interesting note, this CD was a favorite among strippers at some of the clubs I went to. "Sex on Wheels" and "Play with Me" were among the most played songs that the girls danced to. Ah, memories indeed.

I own both the soundtrack and score to this movie as well as the DVD. The music is what makes the movie in my opinion. The score is JUST AS GOOD as the soundtrack and I recommend all of you that own the soundtrack pick up the score as well.. Mark Isham and Munich Orchestra created a timeless masterpiece..

It's A Real Cool World!!!,

First off, the movie blows. Bad editing & no story. But this is one of many soundtrack compilations that are tied to bad films. It got me into techno & industrial. And worshiping Bowie since I was a child, hearing his title track pulsing in my local clubs was almost a fantasy. The reviewers who gave a nasty opinion of it, wanted one genre over the other. A good soundtrack mixes it up.
I will always love this CD, and always have a copy. It makes me feel good when I listen to it, and realize it really is a cool world out there.

I really enjoy this album. It has a lot of techno and hard rock songs. I dont know if people realize, that this is the background music, when they are watching the movie. I was able to picture the scenes in my mind as the different songs came on which I thought was good. Most of time you can not figure out what song was playing where. I am very happy with the album. It is upbeat and fast paced all the way through.
