Superior Elegua Songs,
By A Customer
This review is from: Songs for Elegua (Audio CD)
I think Elegua himself has blessed Lazaro's "Song's for Elegua". With this work Lazaro has left a legacy of authentic santeria music of Elegua. Followers of the Cuban Santeria religion and "aleyos" alike will be fascinated by this piece of work engraved by Lazaro's fine voice. You'll enjoy it...

I listened to the sound clips, many times, then purchased the CD. I am very happy that I decided to purchase this item! I have completely lost count of how many times I have played "Songs for Elegua."I am not a trained Vodou / Voodoo practitioner, but I have been working with it on my own, via book knowledge and personal experience, for a year or so. I began, studying the subject from an Anthropological perspective, and "Songs for Elegua" seems to correspond with the research I have done, so-far. Regardless, it works. When I played the CD, the atmosphere changed, and I really enjoyed the rhythem, chanting and drum beats of the music. Personally, I just enjoy the music, aside from the context, as well--the music is soothing, yet powerful.

Lazaro Ros legacy,

I had the privilege of getting to know Lazaro Ros through his work with Mezcla, the amazing Cuban group founded by Pablo Menéndez. The day Lazaro came to discuss a possible collaboration with Mezcla I was visiting, and the only one home at the moment to receive him. While waiting for Pablo's return we had ample time to discuss what was on his mind. It seems he had been thinking a lot about his advancing age, and how he could insure that the legacy of the musical liturgy of santería that Lazaro had labored all his life to preserve and pass on would indeed survive. It had occurred to him that if some of the most important material could be heard with a more contemporary musical setting perhaps it would find a wider audience beyond strictly religious usage, and he had come to propose such a joint endeavor. This later became enshrined in the wonderful CD "Cantos." [ASIN:B000002GRT Cantos]
Now we have in this recording the chants and songs and prayers as Lazaro Ros interprets them in a completely authentic and traditional way, in pursuit of the same objective: to preserve and spread the liturgy and healing power of this ancient culture. We are so fortunate that through the magic of recording we can hear this in Lazaro's own voice after his physical presence has left us. Invaluable! |
