Songs From The Silver Screen album trailer

Jackie Evancho’s first performance on NBC’s variety show “America’s Got Talent” left audiences and judges astonished that such a perfect, beautiful, soprano voice could come from a 10 year-old girl. During her next appearance in the competition, judges asked Jackie to improvise a tune which she performed flawlessly. It wasn’t just her musical gift and her ... Editorial Reviews

Import edition includes a bonus DVD. 2012 for the young Classical/Pop crossover vocalist and America's Got Talent runner up. For this album, Jackie collaborated with Grammy-winning producer/engineer Humberto Gatica, whose lengthy and impressive experience in the music industry has seen him work closely with Grammy award winning producer, David Foster, as well as with superstars like Michael Buble, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey and Barbra Streisand. Jackie has some impressive company on some of the tracks. Famed violinist Joshua Bell accompanies her on one track ("My Heart Will Go On"from Titanic) as does trumpet player Chris Botti ("The Summer Knows" from The Summer of 42) and 2Cellos ("Se" from Cinema Paradiso). There are also very special duets, one with The Canadian Tenors ("Come What May" from Moulin Rouge) and one with her older brother, Jacob Evancho ("I See the Light" from Tangled).

...she has already arrived.

My intention here was to say something different about Jackie Evancho's singing and Songs from the Silver Screen, so I started reading the reviews to see what ground had already been covered. This is what I found (in part): "exceptional, beautiful, amazing, haunting, prodigy, subtlety, exquisite, pitch-perfect, crystal clarity, power, stunning warmth, perfect, devastating, immaculate phrasing, angelic, genius, evanescent, awe-inspiring, gorgeous, incredible, outstanding, magnificent...and wow x's 8."

So...since all the superlatives have been used up already, I am going attempt to describe the indescribable without them.

Do you know that catch in your throat you get the first time your baby looks into your eyes and smiles? How about in church when you suddenly feel humbled by the many blessings you know you are so unworthy to have received? Or that bittersweet reverie you fall into when something reminds you of a long-lost love? Maybe a quiet morning in a peaceful place with a bird singing so sweetly that you suddenly realize you are holding your breath? Those emotions pretty much describe how you're going to feel listening to the first song on the CD. Now, for the second song...OK, just kidding, but only a little.

Everyone is going to react differently to the songs on any CD, but I can almost guarantee that you will understand what I am trying to say about this one (or any collection of Jackie Evancho songs) by the time the last note of it echos through your mind. David Foster once said that Jackie can be whatever she wants to be, from the greatest opera singer to the greatest pop singer of her time. Nothing in Songs from the Silver Screen makes me doubt his assessment.

I can't afford a Rolls-Royce or a yacht or a home in Palm Beach, but I can afford a Jackie Evancho CD...and you can't get any better than that.

Jackie's angelic voice has lit up many of my dreary days. Her artistry continues to develop since her last album. Her tone has brightened and her enunciation of the lyrics is much more precise. Her stagecraft has also evolved. She begins to realize that she is in command of the stage and that the orchestra plays at her pace; she is experimenting with her vocals in a delightful way. Watch her on stage and you'll see her new found confidence and mastery of her craft, and marvel at the way she projects her emotions with ease and grace. All these are evident in her recent concerts, including her latest PBS Music of the Movies performance at the Orpheum Threater, and now in this companion album "Songs From The Silver Screen".

The songs are movie themes - from Andrew Lloyd Webber's film version of the Phantom of the Opera to Disney's animated classic Lion King. Jackie's older brother Jacob and a number of guest musicians also contribute to this album. Jackie and Jacob Evancho sing the love theme duet "I See the Light" from the 2010 Disney's computer generated musical Tangled. Jacob Evancho has a decent pop voice. I wish him well in his music career.

Among the notable musicians in this album is the American trumpeter and composer Christopher Botti, who plays the trumpet in Jackie's "The Summer Knows" from the award winning 1971 movie classic Summer of '42.

The Croatian cello duo 2Cellos, with Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser, accompanies Jackie in "Se" from the 1988 Italian film Cinema Paradiso.

The Canadian Tenors perform alongside Jackie in her song "Come What May" from the 2001 romantic musical movie Moulin Rouge!.

Some of the greatest music today is being written for movies and this album showcases 12 wonderful themes.

Jackie Evancho shows that her artistry is growing by leaps and bounds. Coupled with her gorgeous soprano voice and her innate ability to discover and evoke the emotional content of the songs, she makes them her own. Some were orginally recorded more than 50 years before she was born and some much more recently, but, in her hands, each is made new again.

Even light fare, such as the themes from Disney movies, Reflection (Mulan), Can You Feel the Love Tonight (The Lion King), and I See the Light (Tangled), become songs with profound messages when Jackie applies her talents to them.

The orchestrations are extremely well done and support rather than drown her out. Guest artists, Chris Botti, Joshua Bell, and the 2Cellos add wonderful individual, supporting performances to The Summer Knows, My Heart Will Go On, and Se (Cinema Paradiso).

The duet of Come What May (Moulan Rouge) with The Tenors is an awesome blend of voices, and the performance of I See the Light with her brother, Jacob Evancho, again gives her a chance to show her ability harmonize as well as sing lead.

Her performances of Music of the Night and My Heart Will Go On are, by themselves, reason enough to buy the entire CD.

I was amazed and delighted by this follow up album. Who would think that her incredible, full length debut album, Dream With Me, released last year, would just be a prelude to introduce us to the beauty yet to come? Exquisite!
