Purely unadulterated recordings, September 19, 2008
This review is from: Songs I Wrote And Later Recorded (Audio CD)
One of the things I hate most about popular music is the normalization of recording artists at the hands of over-production. I, for one, am not buying it. This, however, is a shining example of raw and honestly vulnerable recording by Jon McLaughlin. The vocals are rough at times and the arrangements simple, creating an intimate recording unlike typical studio work. It's a lot like having him in your living room for a little impromptu jam session...just a phenomenal talent and his piano virtually untouched by mass market chameleonism. It's a refreshing change from the typical garbage that bloats the top 20 charts. If you can find this, don't hesitate to pick it up.
