This review is from: Songs From the Inverted Womb (Audio CD)
There are plenty of anti-mother themed songs here on this CD that is nearly 73 minutes long. And, I haven't discovered any clunker songs! Anna-Varney Cantodea shares her innermost feelings regarding her mother and does it without sounding whiny. The vocal prowess of Anna is hard to find amongst other singers and artists in this genre. This genre being hard to define, as it contains elements of renaissance, medieval, baroque, goth and dark wave music. The range of emotion in Anna's voice reveals how personal this CD truly is -- it's at once haunting, vulnerable and fragile but never does it become brooding. This is a CD that you really want to listen to carefully because the haunting music and lyrics pull you in. You'll want to hear her stories!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ultra Gothic and genuinly strange., January 23, 2009

Anna Varney, the lead singer and primary composer of Sopor Aeternus And The Ensemble Of Shadows, is a transexxual goth artist...dare I say...possibly from another planet. This is by far one of the most eccentric bands ever created. The music on this album is kinda...folk noir/ambient/medeiaval/classical symphony/darkwave/....all kinds of weirdness. AV has a great singing voice...though eqaully as weird as the presentation of his/her music. The very first song on this album "Mother" gets you right into the mood for darkness and a creepy entertainment experience. There simply is nothing I can say that is at odds with this brilliant german artist. Incredible!

What more can be said....this is dark music. Creepy gothic-melodic avant garde weirdness. Great singing voice from Anna Varney, and even if this album cover sucks...the music does not. This is an awesome album. Try to listen to the song "Mother"....don't worry it's an original song.....and it's way evil. I love it! This album really fills the void for those who are looking for something sincearly dark and creepy.
