Includes liner notes by Bob Dylan.
"Peach Pickin' Time Down In Georgia" was nominated for a 1998 Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance.
Dylan assembled an all-star cast to honor one of his primary influences, country innovator Jimmie Rodgers. It is evident that this collection is a labor of love for all involved. Obvious contributors like Dylan, Willie Nelson and Dickey Betts and unexpected performers including John Mellencamp, Aaron Neville and Bono conspire to make this a truly heartfelt homage to a great legend. The production values here are deliberately lo-fi. The authenticity that is conveyed by the rawness of the performances and sound is enough of a tribute to Rodgers' style in and of itself. Betts' "Waiting For A Train," Dylan's "My Blue Eyed Jane," Steve Earle's "In The Jailhouse Now," and especially Jerry Garcia, David Grisman, and John Kahn's performance of "Blue Yodel #9" all have an unmistakable sense of earthy swing that echoes the rural early-20th century culture that Rodgers expressed so well. Overall, a great addition to the collection of anyone who loves American music.

Industry Reviews:
... as effortless and natural as ripe fruit falling off a tree.... The match of artists and songs is well-nigh perfect... Rolling Stone (09/04/1997) Sometimes tribute albums are just that, an act of homage meant to remind us of how good a set of songs are. So THE SONGS OF JIMMIE RODGERS: A TRIBUTE stands as a...reminder that Rodgers was, as Bob Dylan puts it in the liner notes...`one of the guiding lights of the 20th century'. ...Rodgers was arguably the first real pop star - platinum sales, marketable image, guitar endorsements, flash cars and palatial home. Here 14 artists...cover some of [his] finest... Mojo (10/01/2000)
