Jean Shepard's concept albums,
By Beth "bethiejw2" (Mesa, AZ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Songs Of A Love Affair/Heartaches And Tears (Audio CD)
"Songs of a Love Affair" was one of the first concept albums in
country music. The album that follows this "Heartaches and Tears" follows the same pattern. Both of them contain songs about affairs, marriages, and the like. Except for "Sad Singin' and Slow Riding" it's pretty much a mellow collection. It's wonderfully sung by Jean, not only one of my favorite singers but one of the best country stars ever. This also includes her hit "How Long Does it Hurt", which isn't on the wonderful Honky Tonk Heroine compilation. A few of the songs are done double tracked which I hadn't heard before from Jean but they sound good. More like 3.5 stars |
