Hello Elisabeth Lohninger!,
By Grady Harp (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (TOP 50 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Songs Of Love And Destruction (Audio CD)
What pleasure to make a discovery the likes of Elisabeth Lohninger! This winning album SONGS OF LOVE AND DESTRUCTION reveals a woman, beautiful to behold and delicious to hear. She owns a rich mezzo-soprano voice which she can use in myriad ways, depending on the mood of the songs she elects to share. Austrian in origin, Lohninger can deliver songs in Spanish like a native (listen to 'La Puerta' and 'Si me Quieres' and catch the intrinsic Latin sense of style) or ride with her through 'River' and 'Save Me' and hear the hidden messages.Lohninger not only sings with special brilliance and sensuality, but she also composes some of her own songs: 'A Little Bit Tricky' is hers and becomes one of the most often repeated tacks on the album. And as is so often the case with the really fine artists she credits her accompanying collaborators with spotlight moments. Her trio is Bruce Barth, piano, Evan Gregor, Bass, and Jordan Perlson drums/percussion. But on some of the tracks she adds her friends in music Ingrid Jensen, trumpet/flugelhorn, Christian Howes, violin, and Donny McCaslin on saxophone. The results of her choices creates a special effect that matches the title of this recording. Elisabeth Lohninger is the real thing and despite the fact that she already has a large following in jazz lovers, with this album she is bound to leap to the top of the charts everywhere. This is exceptional musicianship and artistry! Grady Harp, February 11

Beautiful dark voice!,
This review is from: Songs Of Love And Destruction (Audio CD)
Really enjoyed listening to this album! The song choices are gorgeous and inspired, all centered around the title and illustrating the various aspects of love. My favorite is k.d. lang's "Save Me", but I also really enjoyed the Beatles cover "Here There And Everywhere". Her originals are cool, too. Listen to "Si Me Quieres" or the witty "A Little Bit Tricky". A thoroughly enjoyable album!
