I fell in love,

The first time I heard these songs I fell in love with them. Now they are my most favorite Luther songs. Every song on this cd is a gem. I love them all but my all time favorites are Hello and Impossible Dream. I sometimes put these two songs on repeat and just dream of beautiful things. I can't say enough good things about this CD. This is one of those cd's that you can really enjoy every song without the skip button. MY favorite luther ever! A Classic! He is a genius!

What can you say about LUTHER besides "smooth", incredible in any language. The world has lost a great artist, vocalist, doctor of love. No one can replace him, his style is unique, he can transport you, make you think, make you dig deep within and sometimes make you cry. Like all his previous cd's, its a must have. Good bye my songster, you will be missed.

Luther is a great vocalist!! The proof of that is his cover of Dionne Warwick's "What The World Needs Now" and "The Impossible Dream".
If You haven't already, find this CD and buy just for those two tracks. Keep in mind, you'll love his version of "Reflections" and others. But, the clear star of this cd (for me, at least) is "What The World Needs Now" I MISS YOU ALREADY LUTHER!!!!!

One Of My Favorite Voices Of All Time,
By Stephanie Gwinn "Stephanie Gwinn" (Mount Hope, WV USA) - See all my reviews

Luther has such a wonderful smooth voice and great phrasing. But I am not wild about a lot of the songs he sings. There are usually only one or two songs I like on each of his albums, but I like most of them on this cd. There are a few I don't like on this cd though so I could not give it 5 stars. I hate "Love The One You're With" with its hippie message of free love. This song is garbage. "What The World Needs Now" is a nice song but I don't like this version. It is not Luther's singing I don't like but the arrangement of this version. But this cd does contain some of my favorite recordings of all time, especially Luther's version of "The Impossible Dream". I also like his version of "Evergreen" better than Barbra Streisand's. I love Luther's version of "Killing Me Softly". I have heard a number of versions of this song. In my opinion none are half as good as Luther's. Luther's version of "Hello" is enough to make you forget Lionel Richie ever recorded that song. By far Luther's best cd.

Thirteen beautiful remakes of classic songs in one album.,

Luther Vandross, you always amaze me at the right time! I'm a huge Motown fan, and I think Luther has done an excellent job on songs by Diana Ross and the Supremes ("Reflections"), and Lionel Richie ("Hello"). I especially like that duet with Mariah Carey called "Endless Love." There's "Always and Forever," "Evergreen," "Going in Circles," and my personal favorite, "Ain't No Stopppin' Us Now." A pleasant surprise turns up when Luther takes a Whitney Houston song ("All the Man I Need") and turns it into "All the Woman I Need." This is just another great album!

I like this song because in life you can always dream and there's no height that's unatainable if that's your desire. I love this song.

Does Quality Ever Get Boring? Never.,

I defy anybody to find a truer cover of the Motown classic "Reflections" that was still able to inject the performer's originality into it. I put this song on repeat and play it all day long."Killing Me Softly with His Song" is one of those songs that's hard to ruin no matter who does it. But some versions are better than others. Luther's is right up there with Johnny Mathis' cover as one of the best I've heard. Unlike a lot of male performers, Luther doesn't change "him" to "her", but understandably changes "young girl" to "stranger". This was an intelligent choice that works beautifully. Stephen Still's "Love the One You're With" never was so sanctified! It's even better than the Isley Brothers cover I heard as a child. "All the Woman I Need" is the masterpiece of this collection. The arrangements, the strings, the harmonies...they're all so very thrilling to the point of breathlessness for me. Just gorgeous. "Songs" is Luther's homage to some of his favorite songwriters. I understand it was the first to exclusively feature songs that weren't written by him. If I were a songwriter, I would be honored to have my song in this collection, and sung by a man who truly knows how to bring out the best in each of them. I challenge anybody to find a bad album by Luther Vandross. His work is top drawer or he doesn't do it. If only the younger artists of today would learn from him...pop radio would be a lot easier on the ears.

LUTHERS INNOVATION,

this is an album of covers, and is very enjoyable. after 1993s uninspired NEVER LET ME GO i thought it was all over for luther, but 1994s SONGS thankfully proved me wrong.luther is a master of covers, and usually remakes one song per album and makes it better than the original. he'd been doing it for years so why not an album? the songs are generally well picked, the highlights are "always & forever", "endless love" with mariah, and "hello". the grand finale, "the impossible dream" builds to an impressive climax, and luthers voice sounds incredible. the albums alittle patchy depending on whether you enjoy the songs hes picked, i like about half of them, but from start to finish this is well produced and performed. nice that the album was such a big hit too.
