5.0 out of 5 stars Gotta love it
The Bards are truelly a talented pair. They have a gift for being able to bring their audience on a musical journey, and all it takes is a soft harp and a well tuned mandolin or recorder. Such is the case with Songs of the Muse. This is such a great album to come home to after a long day. Highly recomended, even for those who are not big fans of instrumentals.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected, But Good Nonetheless
First off, let me say that I love this band. I've seen them live at the Kansas City & Texas Renaissance Festivals in the past and they were fabulous.

They have a reputation for wackiness and eccentricity a la a Renaissance Faire answer to the They Might Be Giants. Filking seems to have become a theme with them -- see their hilarious 'If I Had a Million Ducats' on "A...

Songs of the Muse is an instrumental album that is great fun to listen to! Appropriately enough, I play Muse to help me concentrate or to relax when music with words would be distracting. I particularly like the Bards version of Greensleeves.

First off, let me say that I love this band. I've seen them live at the Kansas City & Texas Renaissance Festivals in the past and they were fabulous.

They have a reputation for wackiness and eccentricity a la a Renaissance Faire answer to the They Might Be Giants. Filking seems to have become a theme with them -- see their hilarious 'If I Had a Million Ducats' on "A Faire to Remember" for a great example.

That's what I was expecting here. But this is an entirely instrumental work that while interesting isn't thrilling. Don't get me wrong, these are talented instrumentalists and I did like it quite a bit (despite some very shrill recorder work), but it's not what I was expecting.

There's been a lot of mention on Amazon.com of the song "Tolkien" on this album due to the Lord of the Rings craze of late. It's good but not spectacular, and I wouldn't have thought of JRR's work while listening to it if I hadn't known the song title.

Guess I'll just be forced to buy "A Faire to Remember." Oh well. :~)
