3.0 out of 5 stars Fatboy Doggie Bed, August 5, 2009
By
The bed is very well made. The fabric is resistant to liquids and very durable. It's very easy to puff up the bed. Despite all of that my dog hates it. I bought it for my Great Dane/Lab mix who weighs about 125 lbs. When he first sat on it, his front paws slid off the bed. That was it. He was done with it. For large breed dogs, they will slide. The surface is slippery under a lot of weight. I put an old blanket over it and my Australian Shepherd slept on it. He thought it was great but the bed makes a lot of noise. We can't keep it in the bedroom. The stuffing is noisy. All in all is a well made bed with limited use. Fatboy Doggielounge, Large, Orange

1.0 out of 5 stars pass it over, July 25, 2010

John McHugh (Baltimore, MD United States) - See all my reviews
i bought the doggie lounge mainly because it is one of the better looking dog beds. however, it has seen little use from my chocolate lab for a multitude of reasons. i'm sure fatboy makes some great people furniture, but dogs really require a different design approach.

first off, the material used for the bed is great. it's durable and washable and pretty much bomb-proof. however, it's also extremely slippery for a dog's feet. this bed is filled with an inner casing stuffed with millions of tine polyethylene beans--basically styrofoam balls. again, this is great for a bean bag that you might want to configure and reconfigure for seating, however, for a dog this presents a big problem. first of all, the bed will arrive extremely over stuffed. when the dog plants his or her paw on the bed, the nature of the filling combined with the fabric will allow the dog's paw to slide into the bed, pushing all of the beans out of the way. it's unsteady footing for the dog. the more they move around--or try to--the more they move the beans out of the way. this causes the filling to bunch and lump exactly where your dog is not, creating an even more cumbersome situation as the bed basically bunches up in areas. this could have been solved with some internal baffles or quilting to keep the beans from bunching.

as your dog tries to smooth the bed out, the sound of their paws on the fabric will remind you of early 80's rap with heavy record-scratching samples. it is very loud. as i said, the beans are not really conducive to a bed, as you--and your dog--want a mostly flat and quiet resting spot. putting your ear to the bed shows you just why the dog won't like it. it's very loud as the beans settle. and if it is loud to you, then imagine what your dog hears while trying to sleep. a better choice of filling would have been a resilient foam, or even old clothing or towels. laughably, this is probably the use of with this bed. removing the bean filling and replacing it with either old towels or clothes, or even cheap mattress material has been the only way to salvage this sizable investment in a dog bed. my dog likes it a lot more. it's a shame that fatboy won't sell a cover only option as it's a real waste of money and resources to buy one only to discard the innards. do yourself a favor and buy a cheaper bed for your dog and you will both rest easy.

1.0 out of 5 stars not good, September 21, 2009
This review is from: Fatboy Doggielounge (Misc.)
I concur with D. Harris. We ordered this dog bed. Our dog hated it. Too noisy, too slippery. He would rather lay on the hard floor. To add insult to injury it would cost $60 to send it back. It now is in our garage taking up space. Do yourself a favor get a $30 dog bed at[...]. This bed by Fatboy is defective a clear case of form over function
