If you are in the mood for deep and intelligent music this is for you. Kip Winger continues to release music that challenges the lsitener. Forget any pre-conceived notions and listen to the music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Deeper, much deeper!, April 29, 2001

Made in JAP in 2001, Serial# MICP-10226, Playing Time 60:39

This is WINGER's 6th album (counting the band's), and is very different from anything KW has done in the past: it took over 1 year for this disc to surface (get it?) as it was recorded back in 1998 and 1999.

The arrangements are much more elaborate than usual, and each track has sort of a rich but muffled texture to it. The occasional presence of strings, the semi-electric arrangements, all this contributes to make for an album that sounds lighter and more polished.

The maturity demonstrated in the song-writing, the emotional singing, all makes for an enjoyable listening experience.

This isn't mainstream rock: it's a great balance between acoustic and electric, and between "naked" and "polished". You'll probably have to listen to it a few times...

4.0 out of 5 stars emotion is the order for the day, November 26, 2001

Jason Dulin (Glendale, AZ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Songs From the Ocean Floor (Audio CD)
If your in the mood for maximum intensity of emotion, this is for you. This album was written about the loss of a wife in a young marriage. The songs, while a bit dark (for obvious reasons )are very moving and easy to connect with. The production quality is amazing, Kip does his own music great justice. All of the musicians do a wonderful job of keeping the athmosphere of each song at a fever pitch. Lush orchestrations and percussion flavor each piece, but not overdoing it. The sounds range from "Pink Floydish" to heavy grooves in acoustic mode. One word of warning.....this album is depressing, do not listen to it when in a good mood, ha ha. But if your feeling a loss, or just a case of the blues, light some candles, burn some incense, and embrace a sound that will take your heart and mind on an original journey of heartbreak. Brightest spots are "Wildflower" and "Cross".
