4.0 out of 5 stars New Zealand rock musician delves into acoustic folk, March 27, 2010

Robert Scott

"Songs Of Otago's Past"

(Powertool Records, 2005)

-------------------------------------

An odd, fascinating album, in which indiepopster Robert Scott -- of the classic kiwipop band The Bats -- delves into acoustic folk music, poetry and other archival lore exploring the history of the Otago region, where the city of Dunedin is located. It's similar to, say, Martyn Wyndham-Reed's work collecting Australian outlaw and sheep-shearing ballads... A curious shift in style, but a fascinating record, nonetheless. (DJ Joe Sixpack, Slipcue Guide To Music)
