5.0 out of 5 stars This is an awesome CD by an awesome singer!
This is my first Art Garfunkel solo album, and I absolutey love it! The songs are so precious. "Lasso the Moon" is a beautiful song. It puts me to sleep every time. "Good Luck Charm" sung by Art's 6 year old son, James, is really cool. He really did an outstanding job! Kids will get a kick out of hearing him sing. "Morning Has Broken" is...

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing as toddler bedtime music
This album does not help my toddler sleep. Individual tracks are great, and there's a lot of heartfelt emotion and spirit; but as an album it is not cohesive or consistent. If you're a parent looking for great go-to-sleep music, check out Sleeping with the Fishes.

"Good Luck Charm" sung by Art's 6 year old son, James, is really cool. He really did an outstanding job! Kids will get a kick out of hearing him sing. "Morning Has Broken" is beautiful, too. It gives praise to the Lord for all the things the morning brings. This CD, in my opinion, is Art's best. Thank you, Art! God bless you!

5.0 out of 5 stars An instant classic -one song is lovelier than the next, October 14, 1999

Almost all songs, with the exception of the boppy one, Good Luck Charm, sung by his little boy, are quite mellow...and very appropriate for bedtime. Dreamland and Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep, moreover, are perfect as such. It'd be difficult for me to pick a favorite song - all have beautiful, catchy melodies and words. Some, in their evocativeness regarding parent-child love, still bring tears to the eyes of this new parent. That said, many of these songs are also touching when listened to as traditional love songs. Finally, the writers of some of these songs include Lennon/McCartney, James Taylor, Mary C. Carpenter, Marc Cohn, Garfunkel and others.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very enjoyable CD, April 7, 2000

I really enjoyed this CD, as did my 7yo son and 4yo daughter. The song "The things handed down" is especially beautiful. I also really enjoyed the duet w/ his young son, "Good luck charm." It is not only well done and sweet, but my kids really like the fact that a child helped make the CD. Many of the other songs are re-makes of favorite classics that are beautifully sung. You can't go wrong.

Garfunkel's out-done himself this time! What a truly fantastic combination of tunes! His rendition of Marc Cohn's "Things We've Handed Down" is incredible. "Lasso the Moon" has become a theme song for my son and I ~ This is an album that every home needs!

5.0 out of 5 stars My kids love it and so do I, October 10, 2002

I've always loved Art Garfunkel's fabulous voice, but I was surprised by how wonderful this CD is. I expected "kiddie songs" and that isn't what this feels like to me. "Morning Has Broken" and "The Things We've Handed Down" are both beautifully sung and are 2 of my favorite Garfunkel singles of all time! My children also love this CD, especially singing along with Art's son James in "Good Luck Charm." Guaranteed to make you smile! "Lasso the Moon" is another wonderful song! Highly recommended for anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars We never get tired of it!!!, July 19, 2001
This review is from: Songs From a Parent to a Child (Audio CD)
As a big Art Garfunkel fan I bought this cd when it came out, before I even met my husband or had my son. I didn't play it much until I was pregnant and it soon became my favorite. Our baby is 5 months old and it is still HIS favorite music. We play it to chase the fussies away, to play in the bath, to cuddle and fall asleep. It is a fun, joyful and sweet collection. We love it!

And from the look and title of this cd, a parent can give this cd to a child, and on the inside, you will see a message from Art Garfunkel to his son James Garfunkel, who was 7 years old at the time of the release of this cd, and he does a deut with his wife on Who's Gonna Shoe Your Pretty Little Feet? And he also does a deut with his son, mostly you can hear James on Good Luck Charm. The booklet gives you the songs, and the names of the people that played during the recording of each song, he has Steve Gadd, whom also played drums, during Simon & Garfunkel's reunion concert in Central Park in 1981, Russ Kunkel, Bill Maxwell, Chris Parker all on drums, looks at the booklet for all the names that are on each of the songs, they also the lyrics for the songs in as weel. The tracks are

1. Who's Gonna Shoe Your Pretty Little Feet?
2. Morning Has Broken
3. Daydream
4. Baby Mine
5. Secret O' Life
6. The Things We've Handed Down
7. You're a Wonderful One
8. Good Luck Charm
9. I Will
10. Lasso the Moon
11. Dreamland
12. Who's Gonna Shoe Your Pretty Little Feet? (Reprise)
13. The Lord's Prayer/Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep

These are children's sogns that you will hear on this cd, and all are recored with Art Garfunkel's voice, even the 2 songs that I pointed out that he does a deut with his wife and his son on, you can kind of tell that Art is signing along, but it is James that does the singing on the tune, whether you can understand what he is singing or not, please don't think he got some strange kid to come into the recording studio with him. This should just be the type of music that you and your children, or even spouse to be able to enjoy listing to, and I would say reccomedn it to all the Art Garunkel fans out there, or parents to want to introuce music, and songs to thier kids too, I don't know if I could have idmange Paul Simon, who sang with Art Garunkel during the 50's and 60's, to 1970 before they broke up, during this cd, but you never know.

5.0 out of 5 stars Art Garfunkel still sings like an angel, November 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Songs From a Parent to a Child (Audio CD)
Is it possible that Art Garfunkel has been around for so long, collectively and indivually, that we take his talent and voice so lightly? He truly has the voice for a piece such as this, not only do I find his music irresitable, he can sing me to sleep any time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Super!, May 17, 2004
This review is from: Songs From a Parent to a Child (Audio CD)
This album is the first solo Art Garfunkel CD I purchased. It is a wonderful idea, a collection for kids. Featuring his son was a neat idea. My seven year-old son loved this record.
Art is one of the all-time greats. I also like his website, which features the books he has read and many other interesting tidbits.

I understand Art has also written poetry for publication.

I have been an Art Garfunkel fan from the beginning and this CD is so beautiful I get a lump in my throat every time I listen to it. One can really feel the love Art has for his son as one tune leads into another."Dreamland"is a beautiful lullabye that will really tug at your heartstrings. The same can be said for "Lasso The Moon" in which Art tells his son "if I had a lariot made of dreams come true,I would lasso the moon for you..." Sung as only Art Garfunkel can sing them, this CD will really win you over especially if you are already an Artie addict like me! You will really get a kick out of hearing James himself singing lead on Elvis'"Good Luck Charm" with a very Elvis-like Artie doing vocal backing. A great CD that will really give you a warm feeling.
