Editorial Reviews

From the Author

I went to Mazatlan to research this book, enjoying the bus rides, the street vendors, the dry air that is in this part of Mexico. As in all books, research adds depth, so I was able to bring in the Mayan Show and the shrimp boats.

The inspiration for this story? My husband drove charter busses for three years and told me how he kept waiting for a rock star to get on the bus. He had the band all aboard and one of them finally pointed out the rock star, saying, "He's already here." Unrecognizable without his wig. Then I saw "The Saint" movie and that confirmed a plot with "more" than one hero.

Hugo is perhaps my favorite hero, although I tend to fall for all of them. I really enjoyed making Hugo suffer when Walt wouldn't let him tell Perri who he was.

From the Inside Flap

  • Boxed set of #1-4 of the Sisters of Spirit novels. This gives you four super reads, ranging from a simple love story in Turnagain Love to a life and death struggle in Courage Dares. All are sweet, contemporary romances with lots of action but without the language or sex offered by many authors. These are safe to give to teenagers, grandparents, and anyone wanting pure romance.
  • Want a clean, funny, sweet romance? Grab TURNAGAIN LOVE, #1 Sisters of Spirit   Sweet, Contemporary, Humorous. Stranded on a small island, Jennel is happy to see her handsome rescuer until she finds out he is taking her job. Affaire de Coeur gave it four stars. Scribes World said "Turnagain Love has some fascinating twists and turns, unexpected complications, and charming scenes."
  •     Can't get enough of those Turnagain Love characters? Pick up CLOSED DOORS, #2 Sisters of Spirit   Sweet, Contemporary. Ellen must help him keep the secret which could destroy his way of life. "All the characters from Turnagain Love are back, as unpredictable as ever."  Gail P.
  • Looking for a little mystery sprinkled in with the romance? Investigate STOLEN SECRETS, #3 Sisters of Spirit   Romantic Mystery. Murder and robbery in a Seattle houseboat community. "An emotional roller coaster with a feel-good ending. Ms. Radke sprinkles in humor when you least expect it."  J. Rogers
  • Want more sweet romances, this time with a strong suspense element? Try out COURAGE DARES, #4 Sisters of Spirit   Suspense, sweet, contemporary.   Mary prays for courage to overcome her tragic past and finds her answer in the dangerous present. "This story really kept me guessing. I never knew what would happen next." Allison D.
  • Want a James Bond-ish thriller, set in a different country? Snatch up SONGS FOR PERRI, #5 Sisters of Spirit   Romantic suspense, mystery, contemporary.   Perri travels to Mexico to rescue her brother, and finds a man of many masks. "Charming and wonderful with a dramatic twist at the end." AddieM
  • Want more of the Stolen Secret characters trying to uncover a mystery? Try TENNESSEE TOUCH, #6 Sisters of Spirit   Romantic mystery, contemporary.  Alison hates football and distrusts men in general. Her brother was seriously injured in the game and the former jocks her mother married were unfaithful. So what makes an NFL quarterback from Tennessee think he has a chance with her? "A 'You've Got Mail' type of romance."  K.S.
  • Can't get enough of those sisters? Follow Stormy in SPIRIT OF A CHAMPION,  #7 Sisters of Spirit, as she tries to keep her brother from getting killed in Las Vegas. Hugo and Perri come to the rescue, as the villains decide to kill Stormy. "Although I am not a fan of professional boxing, I fell in love with "Killer Kyle" and his pursuit of Stormy ( his opponent's sister)!" K. Baudoin
  • The Trahern family joins the sisters, as Adam Trahern fights for the love of his life in this modern ranching story. Pick up APPALOOSA BLUES, #8 Sisters of Spirit, set in Northeastern Oregon.  Sweet Romance.  "I love stories about living on a ranch. This was very good and so true." Joan

The Sisters of Spirit series invoves several young women who attended Virginia Tech around the same time. All these books are also available in paperback from Amazon.

From the first page of Songs for Perri,I felt swept away into an intriguing adventire. The author does a great job of buiding sight, sounds and emotion into
the unfolding scene. You are quickly invested in the characters .After beginning the story I have that wonderful feeling of anticipation for my next opportunity to steal some
more reading time.I am glad Nancy has a full series to enjoy,I intend to read them all.It is so nice to enjoy a taunt story without fear of being slimed with vulgarity.

2.0 out of 5 stars Swan Song for Perri... October 23, 2012
By Diana
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Rating: D

Warning: Spoilers

Wow. How to describe this book.

The main issue I had with this book was the heroine was TSTL! Haven't seen those initials before or don't remember them? Let me help you: too stupid to live! This used to describe the heroines of Gothic romances and the horror movies when the heroine would go down the dark stairs in to the creepy basement and you just knew she was going to die. All because she was too stupid to see sense.

With no training whatsoever, Perri--a merchandise buyer for retailers--heads to Mexico to rescue her brother because a caller said he was in trouble and needed her help. She doesn't question this, just books a flight and heads down south. While there, she meets several interesting people and believing everything they say and going out with some of them. She even starts falling for one of the men: Hugo. She begins to fall for him, telling him a little of her troubles; ignoring how he seems to know things about her and her family and has almost the same exact name as a man her mother mentioned in the past. I mean, come on! How many Hugos are there in the world that fit a physical description from your mother and know secrets and/ stories from your history?

Based on the cover, I assumed that the majority of this book was about music and/or musicians, not a spy adventure in Mexico! Talk about confusing!

And confused was how I spent the majority of this book. That and angry at the heroine for doing unbelievable things and not thinking before she acted. I originally chose it because the cover and title implied there was a rock star in it somewhere, fitting in with Rocktoberfest. (And because it was free.

More About the Author

Nancy Radke grew up on a wheat and cattle ranch in SE Washinton State. She attended a one-room country school through the eighth grade. She learned to ride bareback at age 3 (Really! It was a common practice.) and when she got off or fell off, she would pull her horse's nose to the ground, get on behind its ears, and the horse would lift its head so she could scoot down onto its back. She spent most of her childhood exploring the Blue Mountain trails that bordered the ranchlands. She and a friend once took a trail that turned out to be a two day trip. They always rode with matches and pocket knives, so made camp and returned the next day. These long rides worried her parents, but provided plenty of time to make up stories. Her first novel was set in the Blues, and is entitled APPALOOSA BLUES. TURNAGAIN LOVE was the first one published. It rated a four star review from Affaire de Coeur. Scribes World said "Turnagain Love has some fascinating twists and turns, unexpected complications, and charming scenes." It is light and humorous.

Her next book was CLOSED DOORS, a novel about a man who couldn't read. This was especially interesting to Ms. Radke, as she taught remedial reading, sixth grade, and other classes as a school teacher. All her stories are linked by characters who know each other from book to book. For example, Zack and Jennel show up in two more books besides TURNAGAIN LOVE. Also her books have a theme, such as the theme for TENNESSEE TOUCH, which is that just being alive is dangerous, so you can't be so cautious that you miss out on life. Her favorite character is Hugo, who is the hero in SONGS FOR PERRI. Hugo shows up in SPIRIT OF A CHAMPION and in the first book of the new BROTHERS OF SPPIRIT series that she is writing with her son, Nolan Radke. (No title yet. Nolan's books are also on Amazon.)

She has gone through survival and outward bound training, including long-distance ocean swimming. Facts from this training shows up in COURAGE DARES and SPIRIT OF A CHAMPION. Her western ranching background shows up in the pioneer series, The Traherns, and APPALOOSA BLUES, which is now available. Her critique group used to say that she talked and wrote backward. This really helped when writing the Traherns, as the dialect seemed very natural. APPALOOSA BLUES, an AMAZON TOP 100 BEST SELLER, is the final book for both the Trahern series and the Sisters of Spirit Series.

Ranch life gives a person a can-do attitude, so when she decided to write and produce a children's Bible on DVD, she never doubted she could do it. Never mind that she had to learn to use a Mac, Photoshop, and the Final Cut Studio programs. The first volume of the SHOW AND TELL BIBLE took eight years to complete. It is two hours long, contains 650 hand-drawn pictures, and gives the impression of a picture book being read by a well-loved parent or grandparent. Little children are absolutely enthralled by it. The second volume is three hours long, 850 pictures, concluding with Esther. It was finished in three years, so she really did manage to speed up.

The feedback from parents and kids has been tremendous. Nancy is working on the third volume now, which will complete the Old Testament. When the entire Bible is finished, she plans to do other children's books on DVD. And for her romance fans, there are more of those coming. For people who love cookbooks, those on Amazon are written by a different lady with the same name.
