the first & the best,

very few times can you sum up punk in one CD. Songs of praise foes that perfectly. Monkey and his droogs, inspired from the kubrick film a clockwork orange, do a great job of summing up what punk really means. Punk doesnt mean mohawks and died hair, it means being different, an individual, and having fun doing it. Throughout the CD the vocals are raw and distinctively british, and the guitar and drums are great, while some times a little muffled. If this CD interests you, you may also wanna look up minor threat, the unseen, and the varukers, you won't regret it!

Joker and the Adicted,

Tired of listening to the weak, boring, and untalented groups of the milenneium? Do you dig the pop side punk has to offer? Or do ya' just have a soft spot for a group of blokes decked out in "Clock Work Orange" outfits topped with a lead singer who could double as a Ringling Brother clown? Look no further. Cause the Adicts are that and a lot more. The Adicts were one of the few early punk groups who survived the eighties, and when you hear the tracks England, and Get Adicted, you'll nod your head and understand just why! But those are'nt the only greats on this carousel of crass...The album finishes strong with the tracks, Songs of Praise and Sound of Music. I recommend this album for those lookin' for a cross between the Ramones, Sex Pistols, and The Cure. Or for those of us looking for the finest sound punk has has ever had to offer.

Viva la Songs Of Praise!,
This review is from: Songs of Praise (Audio CD)
With all the "pop- punk" going around today, It's refreshing to know that some good bands out touring, especially this one. When I saw these guys live, I went because my friends were going, and had only previously heard "Viva la Revolution". When these guys played, they blew me away, so I reluctantly picked up this cd, hearing how it was their best. This cd also blew me away.
From start to finish this album is great. Songs like "England", "Get Adicted", and "Viva la Revolution" still sound great after all these years, and Monkey's "Robert Smith having an orgasm" vocals just plain rock. Easily the Adicts best cd, this album was revolutionary for starting "Clockwork punk", a genre carried on by bands like the Lower Class Brats. Bottom line: Essential for fans of punk, especially punk similar to LCB, Buzzcocks and the Ramones.

Back in '82, I saw the t-shirt based on the album cover, with Monkey's lithoed face, but had never listened to the Adicts until watching the video for "Viva La Revolution" on the dvd "God Save The Queen". I could kick my own rear end for not getting into this band back then; another missed opportunity from my youth, until today! This is one of the best punk albums EVER! Hard to pick a favorite song, but you can clearly hear their influence on late'90's California bands like the Bodies. The Adicts sound like a cross between Generation X and the Viletones, with a dash of the Clash and the Ramones for good measure. Songs of Praise gets my praise, and should be rated 10 stars! Get Adicted before it's too late.

One of the best and most original punk bands ever. This album is great. Much rawer then anything else they ever did. Viva La Revolution is a punk classic. Dont skip songs like Enlgand, Telepathic Peoples, Calling Calling, and In the Background (which is my favorite on this album). If you are a first time buyer with this band you should start with Sound of Music or Smart Alex

Some called this 'clockwork punk'and others called else. What this is...IS....Very good, melodic music with a twist of variety, and songs that stick in your head. A classic record that stands out.

One of the twenty best punk rock albums of all time!,

I have recently come to realize that one of my greatest regrets of the past two decades is that I never gave The Adicts a chance. I heard "Viva La Revolution" on some obscure British "New Wave" compilation back in the mid-80's, and even though the song was catchy, I dismissed them as just another in a long line of oi bands with pop sensibility. A few months ago, I borrowed this disc from a friend and I was blown away. As soon as the album was over, I listened to it again and these songs are so great I found myself singing along the 2nd time I had ever heard these! This is a MUST-HAVE for any punk rock fan and can compete with the best of them: The Buzzcocks' "Singles Going Steady," The Sex Pistols' "Never Mind The Bollocks," Generation X's debut.. you name it! Okay maybe not the original UK release of the first Clash album, but what can compare to that?

Something to be proud of,
This review is from: Songs of Praise (Audio CD)
Songs of Praise is hands down the best of the Adicts (exluding greatest hits and live albums etc.) There isn't a single song I dislike on this album. Songs of Praise is a lot of fun starting out with thier first song England with an "ay ay ay ay oh oh oh oh" chorus and dancing the tango in "tango". Of course it has the classic "viva la revolution" which you can't miss. i'm not going to write about song after song but if you are new to the Adicts and you don't know where to start, pick up Songs of Praise. You'll "get a duh a duh a duh a duh addicted!" in no time.

Probably the second catchiest punk song of all time, after "Blitzkrieg Bop". But this album is great. There is buzzsaw guitars, spitfire drums, rocksteady bass, and street-smart lyrics spit out at hyperspeed by the charismatic Monkey. Get this album so you can hear the best that British oi/pub-punk has to offer.
