INCREDIBLE ALBUM! Great Songs & Great Artists,
By "qbookmiller" (Nashville, TN. United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Songs for a Purpose Driven Life (Audio CD)
If you are tired of mediocre tunes with lousy lyrics, get this album. I loved it. Not only is the music first quality (produced by the Grammy Award winning team of Buster & Shavoni- who have produced Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams) the songs have real depth of meaning to them. I listened to this album over and over during a "40 Days of Purpose" spiritual journey and it really lifted my spirits when I was going through some tough times. I love the different styles used on this album - pop, rock, country, R& B etc. My favorite songs are the ones by Kevin Max of DC Talk, Nichole C Mullen, and Natalie Grant. But the unexpected surprise was "My Life Will Worship You." What a song!I found that these songs really reinforced the truths of THE PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE book by Rick Warren. I'm giving this album along with the book to a bunch of family and friends at Christmas. It's a great combo. Together they've inspired me to a new level of spiritual growth. I hope they record more in this series.

Buy this album. If you enjoy different kinds of modern worship music, buy this album. Other less-than-enthusiastic reviewers have neglected to point out that this music was performed during the Purpose Driven Life simulcast that thousands of churches participated in across the country when Rick Warren's book first appeared. Those performances were solid. Pay special attention to "My Soul In Your Hands" (powerful vocals) and "Reach One More for Jesus" (powerful message, especially if you've read the book and know where how the phrase relates to Rick Warren's father).

I heard the book was awesome and couldn't wait to hear the CD. I think it's just because I wasn't familiar with the artists but I did like the lyrics.

Love the book....CD was a bad choice.,
This review is from: Songs for a Purpose Driven Life (Audio CD)
I agree with most other reviews that a music CD, as used for a "marketing ploy" for a book, is a very bad decision. I would be curious to know where the money generated from the Purpose Driven Life trademark is going. I do believe it's safe to give Rick Warren the benefit of the doubt and believe he is using 100% of the money generated from "The Purpose Driven Life" name, which is trademarked, to fund distribution of the products and further the kingdom of God and expand the Church. I believe that it's quite alright that Christians such as Rick Warren capitalize personally off their books somewhat for their hard work and sacrifice, but when you see books accompanied by music CDs of the same name it sends the wrong message as to it's motivation. I do not know Rick Warren personally, but I do know for a fact that most Christian writers who pastor their own Churches (Josh McDowell, Max Lucado, etc) use all money generated from the sales of books and there accompanimenst to further the kingdom of God through their Churches. Rick Warren has done a fantastic job with The Purpose Driven Life Book, but I believe that a CD and other marketed products using the Purpose Driven Life trademark should have been avoided at all cost to prevent another "Prayer of Jabez" marketing scenerio, which I personally thought was disgraceful.

The nocturnes of Chopin,
By Heat Pasteurized (Detroit, MI) - See all my reviews

If you strongly dislike the music on this CD and prefer Chopin's nocturnes instead (or even Led Zeppelin), then read Russell David Harper's BALD. It's a good anodyne to purpose-driven mediocrity, and an example of a true search for meaning.

Why is it impossible for Christians to innovate? No wonder Christian music is considered to be a joke...we have soundtracks for our books. Get real...this is just a marketing ploy. Get some real music, not this mass-produced unoriginal tripe. I sincerely doubt that God's a fan of unoriginality and noninnovation either.
