CAPTURES THE SPIRIT OF THE SEA,
This review is from: Songs Of The Sea (Audio CD)
If you find the sea and everything associated with it mesmerizing and magnificient; you'll love this. It has a John Denver feel to it--you know what he loved by his music, likewise; you know these singers and songwriters truly love and have experienced the Spirit of the sea (yes the Spirit.) "Songs of the Sea" is full of nostalgia and longing for the sea. It tells many stories of the sea and paints numerous pictures in my mind. I feel very fortunate to have happened upon this by chance and hope and expect to be listening many decades from now, Lord willing. I love all the songs but the first, "Silver Sea" captures my feelings best: "...The ocean has always been a part of me. I can feel the salt-water running through my veins"... The only thing that is missing is the words to the songs. But don't worry, you'll listen to this so much you'll learn all the words by heart. It would be great to go sailing with this music playing. Someday... "One can not look at the sea without wishing for the wings of a swallow." Sir Richard Francis Burton (1821-1890 English Explorer.) This music will make you feel like that swallow. I highly and whole-heartedly recommend this to sea lovers worldwide!

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Songs Of The Sea (Audio CD)
While traveling in the maritime provinces of Canada many years ago, we stayed at a B&B a Cape Onion, Newfoundland. The host had grown up there and besides offering food and shelter for a night, he shared his love of the area history and music with guests. We bought a cassette tape and played the music over and over in the stereo of our rental car. I was thrilled to see it was now available in CD form so that we can continue to enjoy the music. Anyone who's been to the maritime provinces will picture themselves back there as they listen. Others? You'll love the music!

The Garrison Brothers start it off with an easy listening tune called Silver Sea. Nice pace and something you want to hum or whistle as you go alone your day. Fishermans Son,Bay of St. Ann's, Black Rock, are three tear jerkers in the 60's folk protest style. Very down. Let me fish off Cape St. Mary's is a wonderful showcase of Denis Ryan and a true Song of the Sea. Rolling On the Sea is a great tune with a wonderful beat. It's also one of those songs to put on your Mp3 player when you walk.
Flow Time and Atlantic put you back in the underground pub. Sea People celebrates people who work and live by the sea. Very deep. The last three are good songs that have overtones of Gordon Lightfoot. All in all it brought me to know about The Garrison Brother and Breakin Tradition.
