Biography

Sonata Arctica is a power metal band from Finland, formed in 1996 by singer/keyboard player Tony Kakko, guitarist Jani Liimatainen, bassist Marko Paasikoski, drummer Tommy Portimo and bassist Pentti Peura. Paasikoski and Peura would be replaced before the bands' debut album.

The band originally started as the Tricky Beans, before a brief stint as the Tricky Means. A change in style and line-up led… Read more in Amazon's Sonata Arctica Store

This review is from: Songs Of Silence: Live In Tokyo (2CD) (Audio CD)
I recently purchased the 2 disc (Japanese version) of Sonata Arctica's live album "Songs of Silence." For all of you Sonata fans out there, I'm sure you will agree with me when i say that their music is good.... but its even better live. Sonata has to include bonus material in the Japanese versions b/c the Japanese have to pay more for whatever reason for cd's. This bonus material keeps them from just downloading the cheaper version of the CD. As for myself, I prefer purchasing cd's b/c my comp has crashed a few times... and i lost everything music wise... w/ cd's u already have a back up for your songs... as opposed to downloading (itunes is legal downloading (all i've ever done)). The reason you should purchase this album is that with the bonus disc there are two Sonata songs that were never released on an Album. At least any official album I've been able to find. These songs are Peacemaker and Respect the Wilderness. Both, in my opinion are some of the best of Sonata's beginning era. Also, the song "Blankfile" is one of my favorites, and I've always wanted a live version of this song. Blankfile is only available on the 2 disc version. If you agree that Sonata's Live work is their best work then I can confidently tell you that you won't be disappointed with purchasing the 2 disc bonus version of this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome live CD!, June 11, 2009
This review is from: Songs Of Silence: Live In Tokyo (2CD) (Audio CD)
Sonata is even better live! This CD is a little younger and rougher around the edges than "For The Sake Of Revenge", you can really see their evolution. It's worth getting for "The Power of One" alone.
