Book Description

February 1, 2002
Life is a journey; that goes without saying. But the nature or meaning of the journey is often elusive, so caught up we are in the details of living. Is life a journey where the landscape is ever-changing, or is it more like an archeological dig, where a single landscape is discovered over time to have diverse layers of meaning and being? Is each life an individual journey, or one universal journey, as seen through different eyes at different times and in different places? These questions and others are explored in this book, a poetic diary that records a portion of one life experience. These pages plot the map of a soul's journey from one place to the apprehension of another, and onward to find the path to a new land -- a new way of seeing and being.

About the Author

Elisabeth T. Eliassen has been a lifelong resident of the San Francisco Bay Area, where she and her husband are raising their girl/boy set of twins. She is a professional singer who regularly performs everything from liturgical chant to oratorio, opera and art songs. It was an intense love of literature that ultimately led to a life of song, as well as to intense personal studies of philosophy, religion, spirituality, psychology, history of ideas, linguistics, hermeneutics, metaphysics and, in recent years, holistic healing. Her poetry has evolved from a contemplation of words, their meaning, and how they both shape and reflect the arts of living and being. She is currently involved with a fledgling project of the United Nations Association of San Francisco called Artists for Global Peace. Ms. Eliassen is a certified Reiki Therapist.

Eye To Eye

2 December 1997

The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season.
Psalm 145:15

May what I see be acceptable in your sight;
For I acknowledge that I am your eyes,
Though your sight be more than mine,
For all eyes wait upon you.

Sweet servitude I have come to know,
More and more each waking hour,
Even in the shadowscape of sleep,
Bathed in colors brilliant and subtle;

There are more colors than I may discern,
Yet I know that all pass through my frame;
I am of all colors and they are of me:
The All is merely a reflection of You.

Beams of light intersecting at my cortex
Are moments of immutable verity;
Be they warm or undeniably, numbingly chill,
Truth is before time and cannot be altered.

I can see only from inside out,
I think but cannot know what I am about;
Though you perceive through my whole being,
Truth alters me by all that I am seeing.

Reflections at the Heart of Time

29 January 1998

Within the cloistered ring of fire,
I stand at the heart of time.

Light from all directions touches me,
Sings on me, in me, through me.
In turn, I open my heart to the all,
Releasing the song of my soul,
Accepting the warm embrace of infinity.

The faces of countless phases of me
Smile into the vastness of my eyes,
Recording themselves eternally evolving
On the endless tablet of my mind;
More of me than I could ever call to memory,
But our thought laughs as we sense this,
For the me that is now is each of them now,
Living, breathing, a memoriam vite of
All possible nows; parallel, simultaneous,
A kaleidoscope of living and being—vibrant!
More alive with each passing thought,
More true with each expanding thought,
More actualized with each and every thought,
For every thought makes time,
Every thought is time and timeless.

Reflection is the amplification of thought,
A folding of thought upon thought,
True thought of true thought,
Begotten, not made,
One being,
Realized.

The Thought Unspoken

2 and 13 February 1998

Hand in hand we walk together,
Partners in the tapestry of time,
Threading our vital essences
Through the fabric of all existence.

Rising between us, a single thought,
Unspoken, yet sounding loudly within
The patterns of our individualities;
Two voices reaching a unison tone.

Imperceptible inflections are cast
By each of our souls upon this thought,
Which, having its own timbre and life,
Walks forward with us through time.

Within that living, breathing thought,
All the emotions of our hearts and minds,
All the colors of our being meld together,
Creating a new song and a newer reality...

Our thought: the first child of our love;
The nurturing mother of our togetherness;
The evolving covenant of our mutual desire;
The song and celebration of our journey.
