In this album Michael exhibited his glamour with pure clearence, emotion and mastery in his vioce. The renditions are perfect with the collaboration from the LSO. This is an album that you'd like to play for a thousand times and never enough! The best trax include: Maria/Tonight, Bring Him Home, Unexpected Song.-Once you hear them, you'll be addicted to them.

I just wanted to say this album is one of the most beautiful albums of all! I am a big fan of Michael Crawford's. His voice is so very beautiful and pure. He expresses so much love and emotion through all of his songs. I've heard all of his albums, but this is my favorite of all. So do not hesitate to by it, his heavenly voice and music will change your life for the better, as it changed mine!

In my opinion this is Michael Crawford's best CD. His voice was at it's peak, he dedicated it to his grandmother who talked him into singing, and the emotion is overwhelming. To say this is his best is saying alot, because I love everything he does. Once you've heard him do a song, it ruins you for anyone else. Listen to "Maria" and you'll know what I mean.

Maria . . . the most beautiful name I've ever heard. . .Maria. . . Maria. . .Maria. . .Maria! Sorry, I get carried away sometimes. If you like any of the songs listed above, buy this. From start to finish the music is hauntingly beautiful and touching. If you've liked the Phantom of the Opera or Barnum or anything that has to do with Musical Theater at all, buy this. From Unexpected Song to Bring Him Home to When You Wish Upon A Star, his voice is perfection and highly addictive. This is a great deal and excellent music. It get's my enthusastic approval. . .a Crawford - addict who wishes her name was Maria. . .;-)

Unexpected Song-
That has to be one of my all time favs from Mike C.--
He sings as though he has experienced the lyrics--
and it's so emotional with that violin at the end of unexpected song...
If I loved You----another one of Mike's specialties--
he tells a story through his singing!!!!
Everything that has to be said about Mike has been said---!!!
Therapuetic music to help people through tough times!!

I like this Michael Crawford CD so much that when I literally wore out my first copy of it by playing it constantly I just had to purchase a second copy. My favorite number on this CD has to be "When You Wish Upon a Star." As a child I would watch the Disney show on television every Sunday evening if only to hear Jiminey Cricket sing the song but as a woman - well, Jiminey cannot begin to compare with Michael's grown-up version. The renditions of "If I Loved You" and "You'll Never Walk Alone from Carrousel are also the best I've ever heard and there are many more equally well done songs on the CD. If I wear out this copy I will definitely purchase it again!

This is a terrific collection of show tunes, sung by a master. The album is varied, the Symphony Orchestra is wonderful, and it's a plessure all around.

The music is classic and Michael Crawford is at his best. This CD is one that any romantic should have in his/her collection. It is definitely five-star quality. I've given it to any number of friends. And recommended it to many others. It is fail-safe.

Fresh from his phenomenal success as London's (and later Broadway's) "Phantom of the Opera", Michael Crawford, the Eternal Choir Boy, presented his premire solo album, " Songs From the Stage and Screen".
It begins with a medley of songs from "West Side Story", of which, I personally thought the tempo could have been slightly different where the song, "Tonight" was concerned. I would have preferred the emphasis to be on strings rather than percussion as was done in the film version.
But Crawford's delivery is breathless and effortless on each of the numbers, and great acoustics help tremendously.
His version of Irving Berlin's "What'll I Do?" is heartfelt, and profoundly sad. Lloyd Webber's "Unexpected Song" is as sweet as the cold berry punch I often drank while relaxing in the days when I was breaking in my copy of this album; Rodger's and Hammerstein's "If I Loved You" is brief and has a bittersweet finality to it. "Before the Parade Passes By", from "Hello, Dolly!"-- the film version of which he starred with Barbra Striesand and Walter Matthau, has a lot of pep, and sounds as though it could be played during halftime at a football game.
"When You Wish Upon A Star" is ethereal. The first version of Cole Porter's "In The Still of The Night" that I consciously remember hearing is cool, airy, and magical. "Memory" is soft, and this is where he sounds most like the choir boy he initially was.
"Not A Day Goes By", from "Merrily, We Roll Along", is powerful, mournful, and profound, and Crawford sounds typically "Broadway-ish" in his delivery.
His rendering of "Bring Him Home" from "Les Miserables" is statelier and sunnier than Colm Wilkinson's original, and "You'll Never Walk Alone" brings out the sunniness in the midst of mourning.
Years ago, composer Benjamin Britten re-wrote the notes of his opera, "Noye's Fludde" to better accomodate a young Michael Crawford's voice. Clearly that man saw the potential in his young protege, and Crawford's 1987 debut solo album proves that Britten's faith in his potential was well-placed!
