4.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing New Band, June 16, 2010

This review is from: Songs From The Stoop (Audio CD)
I saw most of The Brothers Comatose's set when they opened for The Devil Makes Three in Santa Cruz, CA and enjoyed them enough to buy their CD. Upon listening to this CD, I have become a fan of theirs and have since seen them in concert again, this time at The Strawberry Music Festival, just outside of Yosemite. Of the 22 bands who played Strawberry, The Brothers Comatose's CD was the only artist whose music I played after getting home, and the list of performers included: Lyle Lovett, Richard Thompson and The Desert Rose Band. I have regularly listened to this CD and I have over 1,000 CDs from which to choose due to its refreshing sound. I highly recommend this CD to those who are fans of alt-bluegrass and 'old timey' type music. The Brothers Comatose's CD is simply really good, fun music and I look forward to seeing them live again and to their next CD release. I'd give these guys 5-stars, but I reserve that rating for classics (I guess I'm stingy). How 'bout 4.5 stars? By the way, I own over 1,000 CD's, and the Brothers Comatose is one of my current favorites!
Addendum: I've since seen the Brothers Comatose another time. This time, the headlining act canceled and the Brothers took over and played for an hour forty-five. GREAT SHOW! The windows in the club were steamed up on the inside from the heat generated by dancing fans. How much did I like the show? I 'tipped' them $100 as a sign of my appreciation for them, their music and their energy. Catch these guys on their way UP!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Music, Great Live Band, August 4, 2011
I can't say enough good things about this music and this band. I hadn't heard of them until they played a live show by me, and I watched them play for 3 hours until 12:30 AM on a Wednesday night - I couldn't leave they were so good. Their live show was energetic, crowd in it all the way. The music is great too - the right tone of stringband music for me, a combination of upbeat and darker songs, but the upbeat music isn't smiley-happy upbeat. I'd go 100 miles to see them again.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of My Favorite New Bands, August 9, 2010
I've seen The Brothers Comatose live several times now having heard them first somewhere in the San Francisco area. I'm from the region and despite the fact that we have an endless supply of good music I specifically make the journey to see these guys when I can. The CD release party for this album was a knockout show and they continue to play some of the better and more entertaining venues in the area. If you enjoy fresh music this is an album not to miss. I'm not a hardcore "bluegrass" fan but this isn't traditional bluegrass. If golden Americana and the spirit of home got captured on album, it would sound like this. They're harmonically reminiscent of The Kingston Trio at times, draw out a swampy feel like CCR, and evoke and permeate the entire mix with the sound of plain old fun. You can almost hear them smiling. Even songs with darker lyrics have a golden tone. They would have been a cornerstone of the "O Brother Where Art Thou" soundtrack if this album had been out then. At the price this album is a complete steal, and they are one of the very few new bands that has captured a permanent place in my album rotation. Once you've made a pass or two through this one, you'll want to see them live. I give this album 5 stars and would give their live show 6 stars if I was reviewing it as well.

Summation: Not to be missed.
