Unmatchable FUN!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Songs From the Street (Audio CD)
Outstanding album! If you want my thoughts on it, read the Amazon review above. If you want my thoughts on the band, read on.I saw the Docs in NYC on St. Pat's day and ended up staying another day SOLELY so I could see them again the next night. It was at those shows that I first heard many of the songs on Sun Street and I was ecstatic when the album finally came out. This band tore the house down!!! I worked at a Cabaret in college and NEVER saw anything like the craic to be had at a Saw Doctors concert. Imagine a house full of twentysomethings, all hoisting their Harps, whipped into a frenzy by the high-energy tunes and familiar lyrics of the premier Irish folk rock band in the land. The Saw Doctors take you back to a time when playing music was fun - not a business. The sense you get when you see them is that they took an Irish tradition, playing music, and turned it up a notch, adding electric guitars to the flute and accordion, and making it (more) fun in the process. They don't take themselves, or their music, too seriously, and that's part of what makes it so grand. If you're curious, check them out. Look them up on the web and go to their next concert. (They play the Fleadh's in the States, but they're better indoors.) But be prepared. I GUARANTEE you'll have the time of your life.

Another "Saw Doctors" Triumph,
By Kelly (Churchville, Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews

While I agree with another reviewer that you can't capture the excitement of the "Saw Doctors'" live performances on a cd, I have to say that I play this disc more than any other that I own... It's got every type of music that the Doctors' fans have come to expect...ones detailing yearnings for distinctly Irish events and places, some that are toe-tappingly fun, and the last one, which I plan to put in my will to be played at my funeral someday (listen to it, and you'll get my point! )...a great disc!

Great Music. Great Craic.,

Taum's fab fours fabulous fourth album. This CD contains Irish music bang up to date. From the traditional "Joyce Country Ceille Band" through to the big and brassy "Will it ever stop raining?" with the down right silly but fun "Away with the Fairies" thrown in for good measure. The Saw Doctors are guaranteed to get your feet tapping, you may even get to 'Riverdance' the night away.So buy the album. See them live.Pretend you're Irish. Enjoy yourself.

Rollicking music....now, where's my Guinness?,
By John Patrick Moehring (NORWALK, CT United States) - See all my reviews

I picked up this album not long ago on a whim. Having heard only a few of the Doctors' songs, I didn't know what to expect from a full album. Well, now I know I didn't waste my money. This is a rollicking set of songs that gets better with each listen...whether or not I'm sipping a Guinness. Standouts include "Best of Friends," "Galway and Mayo" and, my personal favorite, "Carry Me Away" (a haunting ballad). For sheer toe-tapping pleasure, you can't beat "Heading for the Sunshine" and the neo-traditional "Joyce Country Ceili Band" (listen for the smile-inducing lyrics). Folks, this album proves that Irish music is so much more than "Danny Boy" and the Irish Tenors. I'll be sure to catch the Doctors the next time they're in the States.

Sounds just like the Pogues quit drinking.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Songs From the Street (Audio CD)
This cheery mix of listenable four-leaf clovers lets us all know what would have happened if the Pogues had quit drinking in their prime. Although this CD was forced on me by my former boss, I have played it TWICE of my OWN FREE WILL...which is pretty good considering ginger beer isn't exactly my bag. Thumbs up!

I'm not irish, but this album still rocks,

This review is from: Songs From the Street (Audio CD)
The Saw Doctors' latest release is an impressive amalgamation of the sights, sounds, and people of Galway and Mayo counties. I really have no frame of reference for the subject matter of many of the songs, however, the honesty and rollicking music touches me in ways that few bands have. I highly recommend this album for any would-be irishman.

Yet another excellent album,
By A Customer
This review is from: Songs From the Street (Audio CD)
The Saw Doctors are of course best experienced live, but their albums are special as well. Songs from Sun Street has a good mix of musical styles, showing off the Docs' range well. But one thing remains constant: it's quite simply great music. The songs Tommy K, Sugartown, Joyce Country Ceili Band, and Carry Me Away are all instant classics. Buy this CD right now, and buy the rest of the Saw Doctors albums while you're at it. I can't possibly recommend this CD or this band highly enough.

I was unfamiliar with the Saw Doctors until a friend turned me on. Their music is heartfelt and fun. it can be a bit silly at times, but overall it's surprisingly enjoyable. If you are tired of what the radio offers you, buy this album. Highlights include "Good News" "Blah Blah Blah" "Wanna Hear My Guitar" "Best of Friends" and "Sugartown."

Another fun album from these little known rockers,
By A Customer
This review is from: Songs From the Street (Audio CD)
A great, fun mix of rock, alternative, country and Irish traditional. The sound harkens back to the 60s at times. There's also a touch of humor and sentiment. Real music...nothing prepackaged here. Strongest songs are Sugertown, Want to Hear my Guitar, Blah Blah Blah and Heading for the Sunshine. Buy this album if you are tired of what radio stations keep playing all the time.
