5.0 out of 5 stars Album of the Millenium.....so far!, July 17, 2002
This review is from: Songs of Strength & Heartbreak (Audio CD)
First things first. Buy this record - you will not be disappointed. Pete Wylie is without doubt the most criminally ignored pop genius plying his trade today, bar none. A gifted songwriter, soaring tunesmith, motor-mouthed tub-thumping wit who can raise the hairs on the back of your kneck at will. If "A Word to the Wiseguy" was his political rant, his "Boys from the Backstuff - the Musical", then this is his personal album, his "Blood on the Tracks" meets the E Street Shuffle produced by Phil Spector. An absolute tip-top industrial strength grade A gem.Oh, and by the way, just in case you weren't listening earlier, buy this record - you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars He's wily, that Pete Wylie, October 20, 2000
This review is from: Songs of Strength & Heartbreak (Audio CD)
This album is a classic. Sing All The Saddest Songs, Disneyland Forever, I Still Love You, Hope You Fall (In Love), Hey! Mona Lisa and Heart As Big As Liverpool are stand-out tracks, each one packing gigantic emotional clout. Wylie's lyrics are of the simple, heartfelt kind. The music takes rock orchestration through a Phil Spector filter and is loaded with sharp, new wave attack and panache. Comparison with stalwarts of English rock music such as Bolan, Bowie and Ferry are apt and although Pete Wylie's songs don't cover the more avant-garde territory plied by those masters, he adds a drop of Motown and a touch of Bacharach for good measure. This album stands as fitting testament to Liverpool's most wayward genius.

This is just a great pop record.Every song on the cd could be a single from the rocky first song to the epic 10 minute finish.Stand out tracks have got to be "sing all the saddest songs, Hey mona lisa and Heart as big as liverpool" This has got to be the best cd released this year buy it and make it a hit.
