4.0 out of 5 stars Okay...Come on...
Maybe it is just the fact that I am starving for new "real" country music but I really like this album and, quite frankly, I'm surprised at the ratings that other reviewers have given it.

To me, this album is worth buying for track #5..."I'd Have to Be Crazy." Yes, I'm one of those people that gets hung up on one track and plays it over and over for...

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok to wish they'd written them...
But they should have left the singing to the original artists.
I love Pat Green, but he needs to stick to his own stuff.

Maybe it is just the fact that I am starving for new "real" country music but I really like this album and, quite frankly, I'm surprised at the ratings that other reviewers have given it.

To me, this album is worth buying for track #5..."I'd Have to Be Crazy." Yes, I'm one of those people that gets hung up on one track and plays it over and over for a week or so and I've been playing this one for 2 weeks now. I like the entire album. I've played my Dad, who raised me on Waylon, Willie, and Merle (with a dose of Bill Monroe and Flatt & Scruggs for good measure), songs from the album and he has decided that country music still lives!

I know, this is not really telling you much about this album. All of the songs are covers (thus the title) and the selection is interesting. I've not seen these two live (YET) and this album was my introduction to them. They are the best thing since sliced bread in Texas apparently and I can understand why. The reason Nashville hasn't picked up on them is because they play COUNTRY music. Something that seems foreign to Nashville right now.

If you enjoy Willie, Waylon, and the like, you should enjoy this album. It is nothing fancy which may well be the key to good country music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Get this CD - play it, sit back and enjoy, April 20, 2001

Ok. This is one of the better CD's you'll listen to or buy in 2001. If you've never heard of Pat Green or Cory Morrow, you're about to. These guys are about to break out of the local Texas music market and conquer the nation in 2-3 more years. What I like best about this CD is that they do a great job of covering classic songs without overdoing or spoiling the originals. There's a great new song written by Django Walker (Jerry Jeff Walker's son) that is amazing called, Texas on My Mind. These two former college roomates team up to do a great job on classic songs. What I like best about this CD though is that it's not on a major label from Nashville. These two singers tour on their own, record and finance their own CD's and are not promoted by some huge major label. Lloyd Maines does another good job of producing by capturing Pat and Cory's vocals and musicianship like they sound in concert. These two will arrive one day - they're making it big in Texas. Check it out!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Never far from my CD player, May 20, 2001

Craig Smith (Port Isabel, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Songs We Wish We'd Written (Audio CD)
Former college buddies (Texas Tech) & Texas singer-songwriters Pat Green and Cory Morrow vowed that one day they would get together and record a CD of some of their favorite songs. The result is "Songs We Wish We'd Written". This is sure to be a favorite of Green fans as well as fans of Morrow. Each sing 4 songs on their own and unite on 4 more. Best Pat Green cuts: "Texas On My Mind" & "Can't Find My Way Home" Best Cory Morrow cuts: Great Day To Be Alive (Travis Tritt wishes his version could be this good) and "Live Forever" (the best cut on the entire CD). Best duets: "Stuck In The Middle With You" & "Red Bandana". For REAL Texas Country, buy this CD. You won't be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pat 'N' Cory, June 14, 2003
This review is from: Songs We Wish We'd Written (Audio CD)
Pat Green and Cory Morrow are great performers and wonderful songwriters. The songs on this album are classics and they're covered beautifully by two of Texas' best. It's a fantastic album especially for younger listeners who might not otherwise be introduced to such great music. I bought it and loved it. I think it's an album that everyone can enjoy. If you've never heard Texas country then this is a good album to cut your teeth on. You'll be left wanting more for sure. On a side note - I would like to see Pat and Cory release an album with original songs that they perform together. I'd buy that too.

4.0 out of 5 stars OUTLAW COUNTRY REVISITED, February 28, 2001
By
This review is from: Songs We Wish We'd Written (Audio CD)
Here it is the album they always talked about recording. "Songs We Wished We'd Written" from up & coming Texas song writers Pat Green & Cory Morrow. Both of these young men have had successful albums, that carry on the tradition of the Texas outlaws. Both play hundreds of shows a year, always to sold out crowds. Like Waylon & Willie, both know how to capture the imagery of Texas that draws in young & old alike. Themes of open plains, love & loss, good living & yes, beer drinking. As the title reflects this is an albulm of their favorite songs. The album starts off with a great duet of Waylon Jenning's, "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way?" Pat follows with Django Walker's little known gem,"Texas On My Mind". Next, Cory serves up "It's A Great Day To Be Alive", by Darrell Scott. Pat follows with John Prine's "Paradise". Willie Nelson is most often associated with "I'd Have To Be Crazy", & Cory delivers a super version of the Steve Fromholz classic. Townes Van Zandt left a definite mark on both of these men, & they repay the favor with a raucous version of "Ain't Leavin' Your Love". The third duet, Gerry Raffety's "Stuck In The Middle With You" is the most fun track of the album. Billy Joe Shaver's "Live Forever" is next with Cory on lead vocal, followed by Chip Robinson's "Crazy Wind", sung by Pat. They duet again for Merle Haggard's "Red Bandana", which Cory follows with Johnny Cash's "Delia's Gone". The final cut of the album, Steve Winwood's "Can't Find My Way Home", is really the only track out of place on the album. Not that its bad, just different. Overall this album was well worth the wait, and we can all look forward to many more fine albums from these two singer songwriters. As always, support these regional musicians by checking them out when they play in your neck of the woods.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great in every way!, July 29, 2002

You have to admire Pat & Cory's ability to pick great songs. I can't get enough of Red Bandana, Live Forever, and Stuck in the Middle! You can tell that these guys are friends, they have great harmony. Pat got his big break not soon after and I doubt Cory has much longer to wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars You must be crazy if you don't like this CD, June 28, 2003

I am a huge fan of Pat Green, ever since my brother introduced me to him. I've always been a country music lover, but it took me until about 2 or 3 years ago to get into Texas Country. Although I was born and raised here. I love this CD. Pat does an awesome job, and with what little I'd heard from Cory previous to this CD, I think he did awesome too. You can really just listen to every song on this CD and go along with it. That's a sign to a great CD. If you like country - purchase this CD.

1.0 out of 5 stars I was very disappointed, April 20, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Songs We Wish We'd Written (Audio CD)
Pats recordings do seem to be getting better as far as the studio quality goes but I'm very disappointed in the quality of Pat voice. I feel if Pat would sing with more quality instead of screaming out everything that he did then he would improve greatly.
