Not good enough to go on there other records?,
This review is from: 45 or 46 Songs That Weren't Good Enough to Go on Our Other Records (Audio CD)
If these are what they call 'not good enough' then what is? Some of these songs are great (and some of them are actually on o'Pump Up The Valuum' aren't they). Don't let the title scare you away because this is a great cd, definitely worth buying.- E d d y

NOFX at one of their highest points!,

I have not been a NOFX fan for very long but I already own most of their albums because I get so glued to each album and want to buy more. I would describe NOFX's music as hard/fast/melodic punk or ska (even some reggae). If you are just starting to listen to NOFX then I would suggest you buy their albums in this order: 1. 'Punk In Drublic' 2. 'White Trash Two Heebs And A Bean' 3. 'So Long And Thanks For All The Shoes' 4. 'Pump Up The Valuum' 5. 'Heavy Petting Zoo' 6. '45 Or 46 Songs....' 7. 'War On Errorism' Any albums below 1992, you should get after hearing these albums first as they might sound a bit sloppy. Anyway, back to the album... It consists of 2 discs which have songs that have been taken from rare EP's. Some may say disc 1 is better but I think they're both excellent. DISC 1 PIMPS AND HOOKERS- Excellent new track. 10/10 PUMP UP THE VALUUM- Probably the best song on the album! Very catchy, fast, aggressive punk song. Eric Melvin is at his best in the verses. 10/10 DISC 2 FUN THINGS TO F***- Fast and catchy. 10/10 As you can see, I like half of the tracks on the 2 discs and I'm running out of words to describe how good they are. On disc 1, there is a hidden track which was recorded in 1984 when they were 16 (pretty poor song). The total length of disc 2 is only about 22 minutes and there is 25 songs so it is very short (be warned). Anyway, if you enjoy music by Bad Religion, Rancid or Pennywise, you will no doubt love this album. Some people say, "new NOFX is rubbish and only for wannabes who pretend to like them"... they are WRONG. Do not listen to them... NOFX's newer stuff is just as good as they're older stuff. MUSIC: 10/10... The music is excellent quality even on the older songs. NOFX do have the talent.

Mike continually says in the booklet that accompanies this 2-CD set that this is the stuff that he didn't think was good enough to go on a "real" album. But this is a great CD set. Short to the point songs just like you'd expect from NoFX. Many of these songs have been used on other compilations, such as the Punk-O-Rama series or on the multiple 7" put out by Fat, so they might not all be new songs to the die hard fans. But it it definitely nice to have them all condensed to two CDs, and as Fat Mike says in the book, it's a lot better than having the needle of the record player lift off before the song is over. Any NoFX fan must buy this album, there is no choice in the matter.

One of the greatest NOFX CDs ever! Its got old stuff, like PUNK SONG, stuff from around "Pump Up The Valuum" and "Punk In Drublic", and even a brand new song, PIMPS AND HOOKERS. There are also a few cover songs like LAZY and FORMING. The booklet is full of lyrics, and information on all of the songs written by Fat Mike. It also has a lot of pictures, and even some hilarious fan mail. My favorite songs on the first CD would have to be LOWER, ELECTRICITY, BATH OF LEAST RESISTANCE, PODS AND GODS, and PUMP UP THE VALIUM. My favorite songs on the second CD are THREE ON SPEED, PARTY ENEMA, WHOA ON THE WHOAS, REAGAN SUCKS, and of course, the classic, I GOTTA PEE. If you buy this CD i garentee you wont stop listening to it, i know from experiance. GO BUY THIS CD!!!!!

Great Album.....why don't you like it, David Crowder?,

Well....I just got my first belly laugh of the day when I almost re-purchased this CD (my music collection got looted...its a heartbreaking tale for another time). While I don't think this is NOFX at its finest I do like the album a lot....b-sides...funny songs and some diamonds in the rough. In any event, I scrolled down the reviews below and noticed a one * review from "Darth Wader"...with a tip to check out the David Crowder Band 'cause "THEY are a band that will truly change your life". BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....isn't that the point? Stupid christian music artists (and their fans) are supposed to hate this band...it would be kind of like me writing reviews of crappy country music....guess what, nobody cares what I think about country music....and nobody cares what fans of the David Crowder Band thinks of NOFX...and trust me....the David Crowder Band WILL NOT cease your impending demise...so why even listen? Oh yeah....and the album is great...check it out!

Great album of b-sides, alternate mixes, and cut tracks from previous albums!,

This is really a good, interesting sounding album. That stretches from material over quite a few of NOFX's albums. This is an album to buy, only if your already familiar with NOFX. Don't buy this as your introduction to there music, since it is all over the place musically.
Personally I felt a lot of these songs would easily have been good enough to go on one of there other albums, such as "Drugs are Good". Great song. My favorite tracks were Pimps and Hookers Drugs are Good, Bath of Least Resistance, Pods and Gods, Eat The Meek, New Happy Birthday Song, and Murder the Government. I would recommend this album to all NOFX fans.

Not good enough to go on our other records? Hardly.,

Even if you're that die-hard NOFX fan that owns everything they've ever done, the booklet makes up 75% of this album's price and the unreleased song more than makes up for the other 25%. Just wanted to say that before going on with the review.
Disc One: Couting Sheep. To sum it up in one word: Amazing. NOFX is widely known for the loads of B-sides they slap onto 7" after 7" after 7". This first disc contains all the songs they did specially for compilations and the songs on their 7"s that weren't later put on other records. This includes the entire HOFX LP and most of the songs left off of "Pump Up The Valuum" for various reasons, among others. Highlights of this record are "Pimps and Hookers," "We Threw Gasoline On The Fire And Now We Have Stumps For Arms And No Eyebrows," "Electricity," "Bath Of Least Resistance," "The Plan," "San Francisco Fat" and the esteemed song "Pump Up The Valuum," left off, for reasons unbeknownst to me, the record it shares its title with. Disc Two: Counting ZZZ's. Some background info for people who aren't very familiar with NOFX. Back in 1996 (or was it '97?), Fat Mike and the band went over to SFO to record a 13-track 7" comprised of entirely new songs. Strangely, Fat Mike was the only one who knew any of these songs. Once they got the studio, he would teach them a song and the first time they went through it without any huge mistakes, they'd put it on tape. The record was recorded in one day. Thus was born the infamous "F**k the Kids" 7". As is said by Fat Mike, "You can't fake that kind of sloppiness." A true punk record indeed. Note that some of the songs on the FTK 7" ("Murder the Government," "I'm Telling Tim," "Stranger Than Fishin'" and "My Name Is Bud") were later re-recorded and put on the records "So Long And Thanks For All The Shoes," "Pump Up The Valuum" and the Bottles To The Ground EP. Since all of NOFX fans loved the record, five years later, in 2001, the band got together to do a second record the same way and called it "Surfer" (with a hillarious cover spoofing the Bad Religion record "Suffer). This time it took two days, and there were 14 songs on the record, but it was still the same golden form of slopiness. One year later, in 2002, both of those records which were at the time only available on Vinyl got put onto the second disc of the album I am reviewing. Many people questioned this act, since Fat Mike once stated he would never release "F**k the Kids" on CD. Though this won't comfort those people much, it's not complete. Purposely, "Stupid Canadians" appears on the original "F**k the Kids" but not this CD, and "Three S**ts To The Wind" appears on the original "Surfer," but not on this. This disc is great indeed. Highlights include "Fun Things To F**k," "Party Enema," "Murder the Government" and "I'm Telling Tim." So, in conclusion, if you're new to NOFX, start with "Punk In Drublic" and "So Long And Thanks For All The Shoes" -- two of the best punk records to ever be released. After you've got those two, "The Decline EP," and maybe one or two other NOFX records, you should get this as a way to easily listen to all of NOFX's great B-sides without having to buy all their vinyl. It's well worth the cost.

Good....or just Fun?,

All I have to say about this album is that I've had it for years and I probably don't know half of the songs on it. It get's sort of boring and you can't listen to it all the way through. All in all there is some great stuff on here but there is also a lot of crap on this album. They should have only put 20 songs on this thing and cut out all of the rest. Sure some of the stuff on here is catchy but the best part is the snotty vocals and the lyrics are pure genius.
Don't pick this album up if you want something good, pick this album up if you want something fun.

NOFX,
This review is from: 45 or 46 Songs That Weren't Good Enough to Go on Our Other Records (Audio CD)
NOFX was a punk band that have been playing together since the early 80s and i have to say have changed a hell of alot since then mostly,i think, because El Hefe entered the band. anyways to the review most of these songs werent on there other records, but are different versions of the ones on the record. the first disc is kick ass, the new song Pimps and Hoookers is great. Then the Misfits cover of Last Caress recorded for the Misfits tribute album is on here witch is excellent. and for the most part the whole first disc is really good. the second disc is a different story there all songs of them just f*cking up,the average song is like 45 seconds. i think there funny but they could of done with it hence the 4 star rating. but overall this is worth the 17 dollars.

This is an AWESOME album for the NOFX fans out there..
Its cover is great, it comes with lots of nice things written in it that will get you busy for like an hour. There are many songs that I had never heard (nb: Ive got all NOFX albums). There are diferent versions of songs as well! However, there are a few songs that are kinda old and therefore dont have a good sound quality... This is a must have for anyone who likes NOFX!! |
