WONDERFUL,
By Gwendolyn H Wallace (Birmingham, Alabama USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Songs uv dee Gullah Pee'Puls (Audio CD)
The cd is wonderful. It brings back memories of when I was small and I love the old hymns that were song. That's the way we talked because of no formal education. It's important not to lose our culture which they are trying to keep going. I loved the story telling, especially the chicken dinner money and when the son went to New York. I love hearing the Gullah People talk. They are so warm, honest and talented.

I can't stop dancing,

I can't say enough good things about this CD. My sister discovered it through Pandora, the customized internet radio station, and we immediately ordered it from Amazon.
Before hearing the intro track of the CD, I had no idea who the Gullah people were, but since listening and researching, I have discovered a beautiful cultural group and art form I never knew existed. This music is victorious and enduring, like the Gullahs themselves. It is joyous, and I *have* to get up and dance and clap when I listen. The music tracks are interspersed with Gullah stories that I haven't listened to yet in full, but which sound entertaining. The real jewels here are "Cum Out De Weederness," "Me Dun Dun," and "Angels Singin' Round Me Bed," but there isn't one musical track on here that I've disliked. 5 solid stars for the Gullah people and their marvelous music. |
