5.0 out of 5 stars Sonic, a great game!
Sonic, like all Dreamcast games, has incredible graphics. The first time I played at part when you are flying I felt weightless. To all the people who brag about beating it in two days, this game is great no matter how you look at it and I still want to play it over and over again.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's good, but...
This is a good game. If you were an orginal fan of the"Sonic" series, then get it. But, I must warn...before youbuy the game get a VMU (visual memory unit). If you don't have one you won't be able to save the game and every time you turn it off, and play later...you will have lost the game you were playing before. Now this means, you will have to sit through...

4.0 out of 5 stars Yep, I like it!, December 28, 1999
By A Customer
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Sonic Adventure (Video Game)
First off, I really like this game. I have to say I wasn't the hugest fan of Sonic in the past, but this one I absolutely love. The "adventure" aspect really makes it work for me.

It is very playable, quite challenging and it really makes you want to come back for more. The story has been well thought-out, the graphics are excellent, the music is pretty cool and the level designs are nicely done and fun to explore.

Having said that, it can be hard to find your way around the game at some points, but there are plenty of characters to talk to which give hints, which usually point you in the right direction. Bear in mind, I said "usually." Sometimes I've spent around 20 minutes zooming around all the wrong areas of a level because of an obscure or misleading clue. For instance, "Wasn't there something shiny in the caves?" could mean almost anything. (This shouldn't give anything away, by the way!)

There are a lot of video sequences. Some seem gratuitous and add nothing to the game apart from an extra video sequence. It would have been nice to skip them if you'd seen them before. In fact, it would have been nice to be able to turn them off completely. The game is big and sophisticated enough to live without many of them and still make sense.

I found one or two of the levels to have traps which were extremely irritating, where you'd fall through something and die or get stuck without it being clear what had happened (particularly the Egg Carrier level). Generally they were extremely well-planned and very enjoyable to work through.

Almost everyone comments on the camera angles. They are a bit dodgy, to say the least. It isn't just a problem when you've died. Frequently the camera will get "stuck" behind a scenery item. True, you can move the camera around and free it up, but frankly you shouldn't need to do that. It spoils the flow of the game. Sometimes you can't manually move the camera at all (this feature seems to be turned off at some points in the game), and this causes its own problems. For instance, at one point in the Red Mountain, the camera is positioned directly over Sonic which makes it almost impossible to judge the angle of a jump, because as soon as you move, the camera swings round and the apparent angle changes.

None of that really bothers me when I'm playing the game though, because it's fun and there's so many surprises along the way. There are lots of nice little touches (I love the way the characters duck whenever the player jumps near them or zooms by!). After all, it's the little things that matter and make a game playable, and that's where the work seems to have been concentrated.

If you have a visual memory card for your Dreamcast, you can also play a little adventure game on that, featuring the cute chao creatures. I reckon we'll be seeing more of them as time goes on!

Generally, I'd say, if you like arcade adventures where you explore things and solve puzzles, and you have the patience to handle the glitches that are there, get this one pronto. Maybe not worth getting a Dreamcast just to play this game, but if you have one, it's a lot of fun.

Oh, and the chao really are very cute.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big Blue's Back, November 19, 1999

It's been years since Sonic & Knuckles, the last true Sonic game. The series has been plagued with terrible titles such as Sonic R and Sonic 3D Blast. Luckily, Sonic Adventure makes up for lost time, and that was a lot of time to make up. Yuji Naka's latest title is among the best 3D platformers I've played in a while and really helped the Sonic series get back on its feet. Basically a Mario 64 pumped on steroids, the first thing you'll notice are the breathtaking graphics. From the killer whale escape in Emerald Coast to the tornado ride in Windy Valley, you would want to play the level all over again just because of how smooth and crisp the graphics are. A traditional pop soundtrack and fast, action-based gameplay all also add to a classic Sonic game.

I just couldn't leave out the minor problems to the game, though. I would have given Sonic five stars but some quirks here and there left the hedgehog not as hip and urban he should have been. First of all, the annoying camera can leave you frustrated some times. Also, pop-up occurs at times even if it doesn't affect gameplay. The cinemas contain too much talking and dialogue when all you want to do is get to playing. The overall appearance of the game also suffers from lame music that somewhat don't fit the mood for a few of the stages.

Despite such problems, Sonic Adventure is still destined to be the best Sonic game to date. It will definitely entertain 3D action/adventure fans and most of all, Sonic fans. After waiting for such a long time to play a worth while Sonic game, the fans deserve it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sonic Great if you can get it to start, December 9, 1999

I really enjoyed the graphics and play in Sonic. I would really recommend it if I could get one that works. I have exchanged nine CD's so far and still haven't found one that starts when you turn the dreamcast system on. I have to power up and down many times before the dreamcast stops telling me to insert the CD. This is the only dreamcast game that I have that does this.

Yes Sonic is back with all new adventures in Sonic Adventure! Sonic Adventure has the best graphics I have ever seen on a home console and its just unbelievable how realistic it looks. When you first play Sonic Adventure your like wow is this real are what? At least that's what I thought when I first play Sonic Adventure. I just can't believable how great the graphics are and there still more to come! Sonic Team really did a great job bringing Sonic and all his friends home to the Sega Dreamcast. Yeah I know some of you are saying stop talking about the graphics and tell me more information about the game. Ok Sonic Adventure is a great game for Sonic fans and there so many ways to play the game that it will take a long to get tried of this game. At first you have to get use to the different camera angles but after that the game is all good. The game is about Sonic and all his old friends like Tails, Knuckles and Amy plus some new ones like Big The Cat and E-102 a.k.a Gamma come together to fight against the evil Dr. Robotnik a.k.a Eggman from d station sqaual. One of the big difference between Sonic The Hedgehog and Sonic Adventure other then the great graphics is the plot. Instead of fighting Dr. Robotnik on Sonic home planet you get to fight Eggman on planet earth which is kind of cool. Plus there are 50 difference levels and add the minigames you can play with your VMU ( Visual Memory Unit ) which include snowboarding,  sandboarding levels, aerial shooting segments, pinball games, racing, and even fishing. Your going to have a great time playing with each and ever charter to see how the story come together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Charicter Play, August 12, 2000
By A Customer
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Sonic Adventure (Video Game)
My cousin said for his birthday present that if I write a new review of the game and gave a review of the charicter's he would be happy, so here I am a second time.

Sonic The Hedgehog (5/5)

Probibly the best charicter in the game, Sonic's got speed (Duh!), really cool moves, speed, the coolest bad guys, speed, the most (And coolest looking) levels, did I mention speed? Sonic, like always, is the best charicter in the game, he has the biggest part of the story, and really cool things he can earn too. Sonic is, like always, the best use (Plus you start out with him)!

Miles "Tails" Prower (3/5)

You know if Tails wasn't such a big boast he'd probibly be more fun to play, but we have no such luck in this case. Playing all the other charicters in the game Tails does very little, then when you play as him he's always in the spot light. I mean sure you're stuck with him when you're playing him, but he takes the spot light away from Sonic and the others so many times it's sick. I now kinda miss his "Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog" personality.

Knuckles The Echidna (4/5)

Rad-Red is back and better than ever now that you can do all his moves in 3D now! The only reason I didn't give him 5 stars is because he dosen't have very exciting levels (There are hardly any bad guys so his fighting moves are pretty much wasted there). All you have to do (Except when you're fighting bosses) is find 3 of the chaos emerald shards in each level. Except for that flaw Knuckles can be quite fun to play sometimes.

Amy Rose (3/5)

Probibly the charicter in the game to play, Amy Rose (Although I don't her levels much) gives us almost as much of a challenge in 4 levels (Boss included) of the game as Sonic has in 8 of his levels in the game! So although there's not much point to her game (You have to grab a stupide balloon at the end of EACH level! ), she is challenging through and through. But wasn't she 6 last time we saw her!

E-102 Gamma (5/5)

Now this is a surprise, for once you get to work for Robotnik (For a limited time only)! And it's FUN! E-102 is my second favorite charicter in the game, because he's so darn COOL! Plus this is a safe way to play shoot em' up, bang em' up games (You use your gun ALL the time!). My only complaint is that you fight Sonic and he's the EASIEST boss in the game! Now that's sad!

Big The Cat (1/5)

The Sonic vertion of "Bass Fishing" is all in this charicter who has a fundemental problem! Through out the whole game all you do is fish for his pal Froggy (I think he's Frogger's twin brother) and then catch more fish (It's torture, belive me!). Once you catch him you go to the next level where you (Gasp) fish for him again! Now mabye once or twice I wouldn't have minded but this happen's 7 TIMES! Plus you can't kill anyone (Meaning: He has no way of defence!). If you want to avoide be hit you have to run away (And that's no help being Big's the SLOWEST charicter in the GAME! ). Plus when you fight Chaos 6 (One of the most powerful bosses) all you have to do is hook Froggy (*trying to hold back laugh*). Plus he has very little to do with the story (If they left him out the story would go unaffected), so that there just makes him frusstraiting AND boring! I hope they leave him out of "Sonic Adventure 2."

Super Sonic (5/5)

Besides you only have one level (The boss Perfect Chaos) Super Sonic is one enjoyable charicter. But I won't say more because you'll have to see his stuff for yourself.

So there you have it. I hope this helps you. Goodnite!

Sonic Adventure is a great game if you have a VMU. The game revolves around a VMU. If you do not have one, then you have to start the game all over again and you can not skip the story parts of the story. It is very time consuming if you do not have a VMU but if you do, the game is GREAT and so much fun.

Sonic Adventure is by far the best Sonic game ever made. It's twice as good as Zelda 64, and is probably the best game I've ever played. I haven't had this much fun since I bought Sonic & Knuckles way back when. If you don't own it, get your copy today!
